AEW Power Rankings: Week of May 27th 2020

AEW had their best show in quite some time and that is saying something. Dynamite was awesome on Wednesday and there was a lot going on within those two hours. The Revival made their on-screen debut in AEW and Mike Tyson also made an appearance. It was a great show and hopefully they can capitalize on all of these assets. It was difficult to rank this week because I personally thought every segment hit the mark and not to mention the fact that AEW had a PPV this weekend. Here are the rankings for the week.

-       5: Cody

The new TNT Champion made his Dynamite debut since winning the belt and announced an open challenge to everyone in AEW. He said that he will defend the title each week. Even though the thought of a TV champ defending his title each week should go without saying, Cody expressed this very well. He is one of the best talkers in wrestling and it was on display.

-       4: Brian Cage

Cage won the Casino Ladder match at Double or Nothing and it was announced that he will face the AEW champ at Fyter Fest. The executed his squash match on Wednesday wonderfully. Brian Cage will be a force in AEW and I’m interested to see what he can do in the main event picture.

-       3: Hikaru Shida

I was debating whether or not I should include Shida, but I have a difficult time leaving her out. She won in surprising fashion on Saturday night and on Wednesday night, she defeated Christi Jaynes, who made her AEW Dynamite debut this week. Shida should have a good reign as champion, but I guess we’ll see.

-       2: Matt Hardy and The Elite

Matt Hardy and The Elite were victorious in the main event of Double or Nothing and Matt Hardy and The Young Bucks picked up a win on Wednesday night against Joey Janela and Private Party. It was a fun match and it is awesome to see Matt Hardy using a multifaceted character in AEW. He has unlimited potential and his alignment with The Elite has been great thus far. It also looks like they somewhat aligned with FTR, so that should be interesting.

-       1: Chris Jericho/Mike Tyson

The Inner Circle lost the main event, but their leader ended up being the most buzzworthy competitor on the roster. He and Mike Tyson had a confrontation in the ending segment on Dynamite and it was phenomenally executed. While I’m usually not on the side of star fighters crossing over to pro wrestling, there are a few exceptions and if we can see Tyson vs. Jericho in the near future in some capacity, it is must-watch TV.
