AEW Power Rankings: Week of May 8th 2020
Dynamite was really good on Wednesday night. The Double or Nothing build has been lackluster to say the least, but they have a good excuse due to the nature of the pandemic. We had a lot of feuds and potential matches added to the upcoming PPV card on this week’s show and here are the Power Rankings.
5: Lance Archer
Archer beat QT Marshall on Wednesday in dominating fashion. After the match, Britt Baker landed a DDT to Brandi Rhodes and Jake Roberts took matters into his own hands and place his signature snake on an unconscious Brandi. I feel like this segment did more for Roberts rather than Archer, so that is why he is ranked 5th.
4: Cody
Cody had a match with Joey Janela and they put on a good match. This was a good win to give him a little more momentum heading into his matchup with Archer in a couple weeks. I think Janela needs to be in a bigger role moving forward personally, but I guess we’ll see where he ends up.
3: Jon Moxley
Moxley did defend the title, but he had a match with Frankie Kazarian on Dynamite and won. After the match, the Dark Order attacked the champ and it appears that he will have a match against Brodie Lee and Double or Nothing. It should be an interesting match, but I think it may be just a little too soon without enough build. They have a couple weeks to build intrigue.
2: Nyla Rose
Nyla hasn’t been on TV in a long time, but won in dominating fashion on Wednesday. Rose didn’t defeat the Women’s Championship, but will do so at Double or Nothing. There will be a 4-way match to determine the new number one contender next week.
1: The Inner Circle
The main event was awesome on Dynamite and I think it honestly could’ve been a PPV main event. It was great to see Matt Hardy back in action and I think he will thrive in AEW. With that being said, Jericho and The Inner Circle is a great obstacle for the Broken One. The Jericho and Sammy Guevara picked up the win with the help of the rest of the group members this week.
