Racing is alive and well. Last night, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returned to action at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. History was made, as there were ZERO fans in attendance and the only way you could watch the race was via DIRTVision. I decided to purchase the PPV and tuned in to watch 48 of the world’s best dirt racers put on a show.

From the NASCAR world…Kyle Larson and Kasey Kahne were participating in the event, as they are team owner in the WoO Series. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Tony Stewart also own teams in the series. There may be a few others, but these are the major guys. As soon as the event started, they began with Hot Laps…which is a practice session. If you had never watched a dirt event (like myself) you were in for A LOT of laps…qualifying…heat races…races to get the pole…then the main feature. You have to be a true racing addict to enjoy this setup. These sprint cars produced 15 second lap times on Knoxville’s 1/2 mile track, which are equivalent to those lap times at Bristol Motor Speedway in NASCAR.

The winner of the Return to Racing event was set to win $10,000. Throughout the event, many donors pitched in to raise the stakes a bit, which is unheard of in NASCAR. An anonymous donor gave $1,000 to the driver who led on lap 12…which Ian Madsen took that home. Another donor upped the ante and added an additional $5,000 for the winner. My pick for the race was 2019 Champion Brad Sweet, who drives the #49 for Kasey Kahne. Ultimately, Sweet never competed for the win and finished 9th. David Gravel came home as the victor in an action packed Main Event that featured a great battle between Gravel and Madsen. Lapped cars became an issue for Gravel, but in the final two laps, he blew by Madsen…Results.

DIRTVision, Knoxville Raceway and the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series put on a great show for the thousands of racing fans that tuned in to the race last night. Everyone watching had a desire to watch action packed racing once again…the series gained a fan in myself and I look forward to watching these races in the future. NASCAR is coming back on May 17th and that will be the beginning of our healing process in getting back to racing. If you are interested in catching future WoO NOS Energy events…click on the DIRTVision link at the beginning of the article and try it out.
