AEW Power Rankings: Week of June 17th 2020
Hi everyone, and welcome back to another edition of the AEW Power Rankings. I kinda thought last week’s episode of Dynamite didn’t really hit the mark, but that wasn’t the case this week. It was a really good show. It’s no shock that they beat out NXT yet again this week, but they did and it has been an impressive stretch. With Fyter Fest starting in just a couple weeks, there was a lot of build up leading up to it in this episode. Here are my rankings for the week.
5: Cody
Cody defended his title yet again this week, but this time it was against an unknown AEW talent. He defeated Ricky Starks in a great matchup and I haven’t seen Ricky Starks wrestle until this week, but I thought he did a great job against Cody. He is the newest member of AEW and it looks like we could be seeing more of him in the near future.
4: The Young Bucks
I feel like we don’t see Nick and Matt on TV a lot, but we saw them this week against Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc. The Bucks picked up the win this week and I feel like it is just a matter of time before they get those tag belts.
3: Abadon
Abadon made her debut this week and man did she ever make a debut. I wasn’t expected to see Anna Jay lose, but it looks like Abadon will be a force in the women’s division. Also, Britt Baker’s note passing to Tony Schiavone made the segment even better. Her line that, “This broad needs to find Jesus” , referring to Abadon, made me crack up. Also, is Anna Jay joining The Dark Order? I guess we’ll find out. I think she would be a great addition to an already powerful force.
2: Kenny Omega and Hangman Page
Omega and Page successfully defended their titles this week against the Natural Nightmares and I thought it was a great match. It doesn’t appear that the team is losing the belts anytime soon, but it feels like they have been on the verge of losing them for months now. I guess we’ll see what happens from here on out.
1: Best Friends and Orange Cassidy
It is odd to see the successful defenders of the titles to be below the ones that won the number one contender spot, but that is the case this week. Basically anything that Chris Jericho is involved in has a good change to be number one each week. Again, these rankings are my opinion largely, but I think I don’t show a lot of bias at all. What sold this segment was Orange Cassidy’s beat down of Chris Jericho. I’m excited to see this match at Fyter Fest, both of them actually.
