Song of the Day: Little Red Rooster
This blues tune was written and arranged by American blues musician Willie Dixon and was covered by many artists, such as Chicago blues musician Howlin’ Wolf in 1961, who was the first one to record the song. But the version I’m sharing with you today comes from the Rolling Stones, who although were a British band, were greatly influenced by American blues. They recorded and released their cover in 1964 in Chess Studios in Chicago, where the original had been recorded, and it did pretty well. In fact, it topped the UK Singles chart for a week, and remains the only time a blues song has ever topped the British chart. I hope you enjoy this one and enjoy the rest of your week!
