AEW Power Rankings: Week of July 30th 2020
Another solid week for AEW and I want to preface this by saying that I did not watch Dynamite in its entirety this week, however, I did get the gist of what happened. I was flipping channels between baseball and AEW. There was a lot of action packed into one show and I thought it was one of the best shows in a while from what I saw. Here are my rankings for the week.
5: Cody
Cody defended his title again on Wednesday, but this time it was against somewhat of an unknown to most people. Warhorse was his opponent and the match was good, but Cody retained. Dark Order was big in this week’s show and they went to the ring to attack Cody, but was saved by a familiar face. Matt Cardona aka Zack Ryder. It’s cool to see him back in the ring and hopefully, we get a chance to see him wrestle soon.
4: Hangman Page and Kenny Omega
Another successful title defense from the tag champs this week against Stu Grayson and Evil Uno of The Dark Order. Page and Omega have quietly been the MVPs of AEW since the quarantine and it doesn’t look like things are going to change. I’m not particularly invest in their storyline at the moment, but things could change quickly.
3: Best Friends, Orange Cassidy and Jurassic Express
I think this was probably the most entertaining match of the night, but the winners of the match come in at number three. In the grand scheme of things, this match doesn’t amount to much, but it was fun to watch. Orange Cassidy and Chris Jericho appear to have a rematch in the next couple weeks, so that should be fun. I just wish it were in a PPV setting.
2: MJF
This week’s Dynamite was proof that you can be one of the most impactful people on the roster without having a match. MJF delivered a wonderful promo and I seriously debated putting him at number one. This really isn’t anything new from MJF, but don’t be surprised if we see MJF as champion within the end of the year.
1: Jon Moxley and Darby Allin
The top spot is shared this week. Moxley and Allin won the main event match against Brian Cage and Ricky Starks. The match was fine, but I felt something was missing. The only reason that this is number one is because it involved the champ and a future match with the championship on the line. Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin will take place next week and it should be a wonderful match.
