Wyndham Championship DraftKings Preview
After a successful PGA Championship, The Sports Chief is ready to help you in making a great Golf DFS lineup! The PGA Tour is heading to the other coastline of the United States and will be playing in Greensboro, North Carolina at Sedgefield Country Club. One of the strategies we used in making a solid lineup was to pick great Approach the Green golfers…we will be doing that again for sure as Sedgefield requires a great approach. I used the Yahoo! Sports guide to aid me in selecting my picks. Let me be clear…its not always best to look at the players people are choosing…but the methods in which they used to choose those people. There are 156 golfers in the field at Wyndham…and the top-65 make the cut.
My formula involves Strokes Gained Approaching the Green, Greens in Regulation Percentage and Scoring Average. All of my statistics are pulled from the PGA Tour Stats portion of the PGA Tour website. I have to admit, that I also put a regional bias on this one as well. I had to go with Collin Morikawa last week as I figured the location would benefit him greatly…and did it ever! He joined Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only other 23 year-olds to win a PGA. I would say that is a pretty good crew to join. Ultimately, I picked a lot of Southern golfers who are used to playing on courses that mimic Sedgefield in the Piedmont of North Carolina.
Harris English ($9,300):
Harris has been ballin’ with 4 straight top-20 finishes on the circuit. He is coming off of a strong showing in the PGA Championship finishing 19th. The Georgia Bulldog alum ranks 36th in SG Approach the Green and hits the green at the 11th best rate in the PGA Tour. With a strong average score of 69.6 per 18 holes…I think English could win this weekend at 26/1 (odds according to Golf Digest).
Russell Henley ($7,700):
Looks like I will be staying with the Georgia Bulldog players here…Henley is the 5th best in Approaching the Green. He also is very much like English in the fact that he hits the green 71.57% of the time, which puts Henley 7th on the Tour. We went with Henley last week because of his strong Approach…he rewarded us with making the final cut and gained 7 strokes in the entire tournament. Look for Henley to finish inside the Top-20.
Wesley Bryan ($6,600):
While browsing through the 156-player field…I came across Wesley Bryan…he has made the cut in all 3 of his events and has a FPPG (Fantasy Points Per Game) of 80+. His sample size is small, but his Approach would rank 1st and his Greens in Regulation are elite as well at 73%. Wesley is from Columbia, South Carolina and is known for winning “The Big Break” which was a reality golf show. He is a trick-shot artist apparently too.
Webb Simpson ($11,200):
Now for the chalkiest golfer of the week…Webb Simpson. He has a great track record at Sedgefield and the course fits his style perfectly. Simpson is a 10/1 favorite to win and the 6th ranked golfer in the world is well-rounded in all facets. He ranks 11th in Approach and 4th in scoring average at 69. Webb played at Wake Forest in nearby Winston-Salem and is from Raleigh, North Carolina…let’s see if the NC native can get it done!
Chesson Hadley ($6,600):
Here is another NC native from Raleigh, North Carolina…Hadley is a great Greens in Regulation player…clipping at a 70% rate. He finished 17th at Barracuda and I look for him to continue that roll. Chesson represents Bojangles too, so he is about as Carolina as it gets…despite the fact he went to Georgia Tech. I think Hadley will be near the top of the leaderboard this weekend.
Doc Redman ($7,800):
Last but not least, its Doc Redman from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I had Doc last week, along with Webb and Russel Henley…they all made the cut and I will continue to ride that momentum. Doc ranks 12th in Greens in Regulation and 15th in Approach. We believe in the mustache and think Doc is a great long-shot at 70/1.
