SummerSlam (2020) Predictions
The Biggest Party of the Summer is finally here and there is a lot of exciting action going on right now. This will be the first PPV held in the WWE Thunderdome, which is going to be interesting in itself, but there is a loaded card. Last night, NXT put on a great show and I’ll try to get my reaction to that as soon as I can, but I put my priority on the main WWE PPVs. As of now, there are 8 matches on the card. It should be a fun PPV and here are my predictions for the show.
*Match Card is likely not in the exact order
*Predicted Winners are bolded
- Women’s Singles Match: SmackDown Women’s Championship
Bayley (C) vs. Asuka
I really don’t have a clue what will be in the kickoff show, but I’m going to pretend that the 8 matches currently advertised are all going to be on the main show. It was decided this Friday that Bayley was going to defend her title against Asuka first. She failed to defeat Naomi in the beat the clock challenge on SmackDown, so Sasha Banks will be defending her title last. I’m pretty positive that Asuka will walk out of SummerSlam with at least one title, but I guess we’ll find out. I think she has the best shot at the SmackDown title though. Bayley has had an incredible run, but I think it comes to an end tonight. I’m thinking Sasha may have a hand in her loss, but I guess we’ll see. Odds are even for both competitors.
- Men’s Tag Team Match: RAW Tag Team Championship
The Street Profits (C) vs. Andrade and Angel Garza (with Zelina Vega)
Since the tag belts were renamed to the RAW Tag Team Championships, The Street Profits have had the longest reign as champs, but I think it all comes to an end tonight. This has been a quiet feud compared to the rest of the card, but a great one nevertheless. At the moment, the challengers are the slight favorites heading into the match and I personally think that will be the outcome tonight.
- No-DQ Loser Leaves WWE Match
Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville
Mandy Rose currently has the best odds of any competitor on the SummerSlam card at -450, but I think she will go down tonight. The hair vs hair stipulation has been thrown out the window and a new challenge has been laid down. Not only is it a no-DQ match, the loser has to leave the WWE. My reasoning behind Rose losing is that I think it has something to do with Otis. If Rose has to leave WWE, it would leave Otis more vulnerable to lose the MITB briefcase somehow. I hope that doesn’t happen, but I think that will be the case. Every time we see Sonya, she looks badder and stronger as a character and I think she continues to carry that momentum.
- Men’s Singles Match: United States Championship
Apollo Crews (C) vs. MVP
Apollo Crews enters the match at -200 odds to retain, but I think his strong reign comes to an end tonight. The Hurt Business is a faction just entering the scene and I think it could be kicked off by someone in their group winning a meaningful title. I think this is the perfect opportunity for this, because MVP has been literally the MVP of the quarantine era of WWE. He deserves something to commemorate that. Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin are barred from ringside, but I still think MVP gets the win.
- Street Fight
Seth Rollins (with Murphy) vs. Dominik Mysterio (with Rey Mysterio)
I’m a little confused by the official listing of this match. It is intended to be a singles match with managers, but it is a street fight, so rules don’t matter. It seems like it could’ve easily been a no-DQ tag match, but whatever. I think this match depends on whether or not Dominik is going to be a regular competitor from here on out. Rollins is the favorite at -150 and I think Dominik has a legitimate shot, but I’m just interested to see how this all plays out. I think Rollins wins, but I don’t have a definitive reason as to why I think it will happen.
- Women’s Singles Match: RAW Women’s Championship
Sasha Banks (C) vs. Asuka
If they really want to hit the accelerator on Sasha and Bayley turning against each other, the perfect way to do it is having Asuka become the second double champ in history of the women’s division. I think Asuka will definitely win one belt tonight, but as for both of them? That is difficult to predict. I think this gives both competitors a chance to redeem themselves because their last two matches have ended horribly, despite the overall matches being great. Sasha is the perfect example of having short, yet impactful title reigns and I think she will drop the title tonight, because if history tells us anything, she is known for this sort of thing.
- Men’s Singles Match: WWE Championship
Drew McIntyre (C) vs. Randy Orton
It wouldn’t shock me a bit to see Orton win the belt tonight, but I just don’t think it will happen. McIntyre has had too much momentum and is currently the biggest active star of the WWE. Orton is the favorite at -170 and I think he has a really good shot to win, but I don’t think it will be the case. A loss definitely wouldn’t hurt Orton, but this same thing is a little more difficult to discern for McIntyre. I personally don’t think it would hurt him, but I think a lot of fans would think so. I’m excited to see the match though, regardless of the outcome.
- Falls Count Anywhere Match: Universal Championship
Braun Strowman (C) vs. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt
This match was changed to a Falls Count Anywhere match, but I don’t think it will change the outcome of the match. I think Strowman’s reign comes to and end tonight. Strowman has been the champ since WrestleMania and it would surprise me to see him retain. Strowman has had a decent run and we have seen virtually all character developments of Wyatt in his attempt to regain the belt, but I think the third time is the charm. On Friday night, Retribution met Wyatt and Strowman in the ring, but it appears that Wyatt may be behind Retribution’s attacks. I don’t know if that is for certain the case, but I think it is an interesting idea. The Fiend is a -200 favorite
