Song of the Day: Have A Cigar
Have A Cigar by Pink Floyd. Featured as the 3rd song on the iconic Wish You Were Here album, some may be surprised to learn that it didn’t feature any of the band members on vocals. The guest vocals on this song was done by English folk singer Roy Harper. Fun fact, it’s 1 of 2 Pink Floyd songs to feature guest vocals, the other being The Great Gig In The Sky on Dark Side of the Moon. The funny thing about this song is that it was written as a critique of the music industry, more importantly aimed at their own record label for the demand to keep releasing more material. My favorite lyric from the song though is at the end of the first verse, “The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think, oh by the way, which one’s Pink?” Obviously saying that the record label executives would tell them how much they enjoyed the band and their music, because it was making them tons of money, but then not even know the names of the band members, since nobody in the band is named Pink.
