Is it Time for Yankees Fans to Panic?
As Mets’ Amed Rosario rounded the bases last night after his walk-off home run against Aroldis Chapman and the New York Yankees, it signaled two things: The Yankees’ losing streak had just reached seven games and that it is time for panic in the Bronx. First of all, I love this. The Yankees fan base is the most annoying fan base in the country, no doubt. Also, the media hypes up the team up every season like they are the next 1927 Yankees. They get the attention, whether they deserve it or not, so let’s continue to give them some attention by talking about how pitiful they are right now.
This year’s Yankee team, like most seasons, has a ton of talent. But right now that talent is either not on the field or vastly underperforming. If you are a Yankees fan, it is time to hit the panic button. Not only is the losing streak at seven games, but they are now four games back of a very good Tampa Bay Rays team. With only a month left in the season, the team has entered the red zone of needing to turn things around. And that won’t happen.
Let’s start with their catcher Gary Sanchez. Man, that guy sucks. He’s hitting an embarrassing .130 on the season. Even “Melvin” Upton Jr. is laughing at that one. The Yankees expect big time production from Sanchez. They need it. But he decided to take the year off. Next let’s get to Giancarlo Stanton. He hasn’t played in three weeks because, you guessed it, he’s hurt…again. When in the lineup, he will rack up some home runs and RBIs, but too bad he gets fewer at-bats than an American League pitcher due to the fact his injury report is never-ending.
Gleyber Torres hasn’t played in a week due to “Stantonitis,” and is expected to miss anywhere from 3-6 more weeks. But let’s be honest, the Yankees are better off without his .231 average, one home run, and the enormous six RBI. He’s been such a huge disappointment for the Yankees and fantasy managers alike. It’s a good thing the Yankees have Aaron Judge, who has nine home runs and 20 RBI so far this year, hitting .290….actually, disregard that. He got sent back to the DL last night after re-aggravating a calf strain that he just came back from on Wednesday. He didn’t even make it a full game before re-injuring it. Now the team is saying he probably won’t return until mid-September.
With this strange and short season quickly coming to an end, it’s do or die time for a lot of teams as we make our way into September. And the Yankees just don’t have the firepower right now to get the job done. They’re four games back to the Rays in the East and 2.5 games back on the Twins, Indians, and White Sox for the wild card. The Astros and the Blue Jays are right there knocking on the door too. The Yankees are DONE! But don’t worry, they still have 27 World Series titles, which every Yankees fan will be sure to remind you of every few hours.
