Song of the Day: No, No, Joe
I hope all of you are having a great Sunday so far. Today’s Song of the Day travels all the way back to 1950. This particular song was performed by Luke the Drifter, aka Hank Willams. Luke the Drifter was a pseudonym that Williams used when he recorded stuff that he didn’t see as typical stuff that Hank Williams recorded, so it was more or less another identity for his music that was a little more off the collar or perhaps darker. The song is an up tempo spoken word song that speaks of his opposition of then Soviet dictator, Joseph Stalin. This song is a reminder that things may not have been as peachy back in the early 50’s as we may think sometimes. It was left off of the original LP, but returned on a Time-Life re-issued set in 1981. If you’ve never listened to the Hank Williams as Luke the Drifter album, I totally recommend it. It is a different version of Hank Williams that most of the world didn’t know about and Bob Dylan even went on record as saying that he “wore out” the album by listening to it so much and it was one of those albums that inspired him as a person and as a musician. I hope everyone has a great Sunday and there is football on today, so watch your favorite team play.
