Song of the Day: The Lion Sleeps Tonight
Here’s a song that everyone knows and most people like. “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is a 1961 song by The Tokens and went all the way to the top of the charts. It has been covered by countless groups, but this version is by far the most well-known. Most people associate this song with The Lion King, but the first thing that I always think of when I hear this song is the movie The Sandlot. Perhaps that’s because it’s one of my all-time favorite movies and I’ve seen it more than any other movie, but I can just hear Scottie Smalls asking about “the beast” and the rest of the group uttering “campout” before this song fires up and the scene goes straight to the treehouse. What a great movie and great song!
