Song of the Day: Creep
Creep by the Stone Temple Pilots, one of the few grunge bands from the 90’s to not hail from Seattle, they were actually from San Diego. I remember when I first became familiar with this song and I definitely thought it sounded exactly like a Nirvana song. I feel like everybody’s got to admit that STP’s lead singer, Scott Weiland, sounds a lot like Kurt Cobain in this song. Creep was released in September of 1992 on Stone Temple Pilot’s debut studio album, Core. The album itself went to #3 on the US Billboard and the song which was later released as a single went to #2 on the US Billboard Rock chart. Interesting tidbit for this song, apparently the bass player for STP, Robert DeLeo, said that when he was writing this song he was inspired by none other than Neil Young’s Heart of Gold song, and the key of D-minor in which that song is written, which he believes is the saddest key of all.
