Clash of Champions: Gold Rush (2020) Predicitons
There is PPV wrestling tonight and it looks like a nice card that they have put together. While it doesn’t appear that they’ll be many titles, if any, changing hands tonight, the matches have potential to be really good. There are 9 matches on the card as of now and every title will be on the line. It’ll be interesting to see the card order is lined up tomorrow night, because even though I’m not expecting too many shocking moments, there are a lot of scenarios that could take place. Here are my predictions for the show.
*match card is likely not in the exact order
*predicted winners are bolded
- Women’s Singles Match: RAW Women’s Championship
Asuka (C) vs. Zelina Vega
Ever since Zelina Vega made her in-ring debut, I’ve always thought that she had star potential and she is finally getting a shot at the RAW Women’s Championship. I absolutely hate that this match is in the kickoff show. Granted, the buildup wasn’t great for the match, but I think they could’ve had match of the night potential if they were on the main card. With that being said, I highly doubt that Asuka drops the belt. I won’t guarantee it, but it is the closes thing to a guarantee.
- Men’s Tag Team Match: SmackDown Tag Team Championship
Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura (C) vs. Lucha House Party
I seriously think that this is one of the titles that is going to be dropped tonight. I feel like at least one of the tag belts will change hands and Lucha House Party has the potential to sneak a victory here. If teams aren’t performing that well with the belts, they seemingly drop them around the two-month mark. I personally don’t think Nakamura and Cesaro have created enough buzz to hang on to the belts. Cesaro and Nakamura are currently the favorites at -400 and I personally think it is likelier that they do retain, but I have a gut feeling that Lucha House Party wins their first WWE gold tonight as a team.
- Women’s Tag Team Match: WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax (C) vs. The Riott Squad
If this match went either way, it wouldn’t surprise me. There just isn’t enough interest here for most fans to care what is going on. I think they have the potential to put on a decent match, but I am not expecting match of the night whatsoever. At the moment, the champs are the favorite to retain at -300.
- Men’s Singles Match: United States Championship
Bobby Lashley (C) vs. Apollo Crews
I’m still confused as to whether or not The Hurt Business is a heel group or a face group. I guess only time will tell, but I could see Lashley holding the gold for a long time. This is one of the many déjà vu matches on the night and I could see it going exactly like the night they faced off at Payback. The Hurt Business has maintained a lot of traction over the last few weeks and Crews has seemingly lost a little ground. Lashley is a big favorite at -950 for the match and I think he wins pretty decisively.
- Women’s Singles Match: SmackDown Women’s Championship
Bayley (C) vs. Nikki Cross
Speaking of déjà vu, we’re getting a rematch between Cross and Bayley. They last faced off on an episode of SmackDown about two months ago, but had a PPV match at Extreme Rules not even a week before that. Bayley obviously won both contests and she continues to add to her already impressive title reign. She is just a couple weeks shy of a full year title reign and I think she will retain tonight, but I still have a gut feeling that Nikki Cross could somehow pull out a win. Nikki Cross has little to no momentum, but I think there will have to be an outside presence that will help her gain the belt. Could it be Sasha Banks? Alexa Bliss? The Fiend doesn’t have a match, what about him? I’m just thinking of some interesting scenarios, but if I have to lay some money down, I’m going with a successful title defense here.
- Men’s Tag Team Match: RAW Tag Team Championship
The Street Profits (C) vs. Andrade and Angel Garza
The Street Profits have had the most impressive tag title reign in quite some time. They’re going head-to-head with Andrade and Angel Garza here and I think this has potential to be a wonderful matchup. It is the only match on the card where the champions aren’t favored and that is saying a lot. While it wouldn’t surprise me to see the belts get dropped tonight, I think it will be reserved for another time. Garza and Andrade aren’t overwhelming favorites, but despite being the favorites, I don’t think it is their time yet.
- Men’s Triple Threat Ladder Match: Intercontinental Championship
Jeff Hardy (C) vs. Sami Zayn vs. AJ Styles
A ladder match with Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles and Sami Zayn seems like a match for the ages, but I guess we’ll have to tune in tonight to find out. Jeff Hardy is the slight favor at the moment at -125 to retain. I think he drops the belt tonight though. This has been a solid story and with Sami Zayn added to the picture, it makes things more interesting, but I think it will be either Hardy or Styles winning tonight. With Styles at +300, I’ll take that all day. This should be a fun match though.
- Men’s Singles Match: Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (with Paul Heyman) (C) vs. Jey Uso
I mentioned earlier that it would be interesting to see how the PPV is laid out because I could see this ending the show. This storyline proves that they can literally make anyone a title contender at any given moment. Jey Uso is a talented performer and I definitely don’t mean that to take away from what he can do in the ring, but he has been a tag team wrestler his whole career and he is in a possible PPV main event for a major title. This goes to show that the WWE creative can make you into a singles star at any given moment. I feel very, very confident that Roman retains here and even though this is the closest thing to a sure thing, I’m still very excited to watch this match. Roman has -3000 odds to win.
- Ambulance Match: WWE Championship
Drew McIntyre (C) vs. Randy Orton
Odds are deadlocked for this contest and understandably so. This is an odd match stipulation for a main event match, but if anybody can make it interesting, these two are at the top of the list. Whatever the outcome is, I think this will be the end of the feud. I personally think that it would be a mistake for McIntyre to drop the title tonight, but it wouldn’t be the worst thing moving forward. McIntyre has had a very dominant reign up until this point and if he adds another month or two to it, does it really mean that much more? I’m not really sure, but if there was ever an ideal spot for a strong champion to lose the belt, I think this is it. I personally don’t think McIntyre loses, but it wouldn’t shock me.
