Song of the Day: The Cherry Tree Carol
Happy Friday folks! I decided to look deep for a Christmas carol that I have not heard or one that many people had not heard. I think I found it in “The Cherry Tree Carol” This song was apparently written around the 15th century…that would make this song at least 500-600 years old. This particular version is by Peter, Paul and Mary (no not that Mary). It is about Joseph and Mary during their journey traveling to Bethlehem as she was pregnant with Jesus…Mary asks Joseph to pick a cherry from the tree…Joseph tells her to get the father of the child to get it…then the branch lowers to Mary and she picks it herself, leaving Joseph stunned, that’s part of it at least. This story isn’t in the Bible and the song was allegedly performed at the Feast of Corpus Christi in the 15th century. I hope you all enjoy this historic song!
