Song of the Day: You Can Have The Crown

Happy Friday! Coming at you today is Sturgill Simpson with, “You Can Have The Crown”. This was off of Sturgill’s album High Top Mountain that was released in 2013. While looking up any of Sturgill’s comments on why he wrote this song, it is pretty clear that this is a personal song to him. If you know anything about Sturgill…it is that he is very anti-modern country music. I think he got tired of living in Nashville and playing the game, so he did his own thing. This type of grassroots music that you’d hear in local dives is encouraging to any musician looking to make it and I think Sturgill is trying to tell them how the Nashville scene is or was for him. I can’t help but hear Waylon in this one…I hope you enjoy Sturgill Simpson and have a marvelous weekend!
