WGC-Workday Championship DFS Preview
This weekend’s tournament is a historic one…this will be the first ever PGA Tour event played at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida. Typically, the WGC-Workday Championship is played South of the Border in Mexico, but because of regulations, they will be teeing it up in Florida. The Genesis Invitational brought about heartbreak for Sam Burns…as he led the entire way, until the last round and Max Homa swept in a stole victory. This weekend’s tournament will be about Scoring…Approaching the Green and Green’s in Regulation.
The Concession is known to be a difficult course amongst locals. One interesting thing is that it is a “nature” course…there are no houses on the course. Being that professionals have rarely (if at all) played here…it will be interesting to see if that story holds true. Bryson DeChambeau won the 2015 NCAA Championship here while playing for SMU…so he knows it. Another very important thing to note here is that there will be ZERO cuts…all 4 rounds will be played, so that leads me to picking great scoring golfers. Since they will be here all weekend, you want golfers in your lineup who could erupt for elite scores at any given moment. Even a bad day will bail you out.
Tier 1: Bryson DeChambeau ($9,900)
DraftKings is giving us the best scoring golfer at under $10k…I couldn’t resist going with DeChambeau. In total, he gains around 2.5 strokes on the field each week and he has won here before. I know he will be extremely chalky, but there are so many good options to choose from after $10k. I loved the flexibility this gave me in picking out my team, but keep in mind…since we will be here all weekend, salary isn’t “that” important.
Tier 2: Will Zalatoris ($8,000)
This is criminal right?!?! Getting the young gun Zalatoris at this price is amazing. I know the field will be stacked, but Will is ranked top-10 in Approaching the Green and top-15 in strokes gained all around. Being that this course in newer to a lot of golfers, I think Zalatoris has enough skill to compete for the win here. He is 13th in scoring average overall as well.
Tier 3: Bernd Wiesberger ($6,700)
I cannot say I have ever picked Bernd for a tourney, but his name kept showing up in my research. He is 15th in strokes gained overall…17th in strokes gained approaching the green…when he goes for the green…he has the highest hit percentage on the PGA Tour. Again, priced really low…he has a game similar to Zalatoris statistically. I love a lot of golfers around here like Abraham Ancer ($6,800) and Billy Horschel ($7,000) but I think in terms of scoring ability…it had to go with Bernd.
