Fastlane (2021) Predictions
Fastlane is here and that means that we are one step closer to WrestleMania 37. The Peacock era has officially begun, and I’m interested to see what happens tonight. There are a lot of good quality matches tonight and I think there are a lot of things that can happen between now and April 10th. I’m not going to waste any more time, here are my predictions for tonight.
*Predicted winners are bolded
*Match card is likely not in the exact order
- Men’s Singles Match: United States Championship
Riddle (C) vs. Mustafa Ali
Mustafa Ali has been on a little bit of a losing skid, but that isn’t saying that he doesn’t have a chance tonight. Ali is a capable performer and I could see him legitimately winning tonight, but I don’t think it will happen. Riddle is a sizable favorite at -600 and he has only held the belt for 28 days, so I don’t think he’ll drop the title that easily. It should be a good match regardless of what happens.
- Men’s Singles Match
Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
This match is nothing more than a gateway to Cesaro vs. Rollins at WrestleMania. Nakamura and Rollins should put on a great performance, but the match feels too quickly thrown together to be a legitimately great match. Rollins is a -500 favorite and I can’t see it going any other way to be honest.
- Women’s Tag Team Match: WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler (C) vs. Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair
I personally think that they have totally screwed up the Banks/Belair build for WrestleMania. As good of a match as it potentially can be, I have absolutely no interest in watching it at WrestleMania. They have no ill will towards each other and all they do is take a couple slight jabs at each other. It isn’t a WrestleMania caliber match at the moment and that is sad to see. Jax and Baszler are -400 favorite and with less than 3 weeks until WrestleMania, this match is too predictable. Hopefully they do something tonight to get us interested in this upcoming matchup.
- Men’s Singles Match: Intercontinental Championship
Big E (C) vs. Apollo Crews
Big E has been champion for 89 days and I think there is a good possibility that it ends tonight. Apollo Crews has had a lot of momentum as of late and for good reason. The only thing I have a problem with is his stupid accent. He almost sounds Australian, rather than Nigerian. If he loses the accent, I think he has the potential to be a very, very good heel for the foreseeable future. I think Crews will win here, but I think Big E will regain the IC title back at WrestleMania. The odds are very close. Big E is a very slight favorite at -140.
- Men’s No Holds Barred Match
Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus
Unless Sheamus is somehow in the plans for a title match at WrestleMania, I don’t see him having a chance in this match. It was announced on Monday that McIntyre would get a shot at the WWE Championship he lost because of Bobby Lashley and The Miz at WrestleMania. These two have put on some wonderful battles over the last few weeks and this should be the end of those. McIntyre is the largest favorite on the card at -750
- Intergender Match
Alexa Bliss vs. Randy Orton
It has been a very long time since the WWE has promoted a somewhat serious intergender matchup. Will this one be serious? Hokey? Likely. Serious? We’ll see. I am very outspoken against intergender matchups. Staged or not, I am not a fan of the idea or in this case the perception of men physically attacking women and if the WWE starts going down that road, I think they’ll dig a hole that they can’t get out of. I realize that there are fans that love this sort of thing and they only see it as a strong character facing another strong character, but I personally don’t view it that way. Yesterday, Alexa Bliss was a slight favorite, but today, Orton is an even smaller favorite. We’ll see what happens here though. Expect The Fiend to reappear.
- Men’s Singles Match: Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (C) vs. Daniel Bryan (Special Guest Enforcer: Edge)
I feel like I may be overthinking this match, but I think it is the toughest match to predict on the card. They have been teasing the idea that Daniel Bryan could be in the WrestleMania match with Edge and Roman Reigns, but at the same time, how can they make that happen? There are a number of ways, but it is very possible that Daniel Bryan could win the belt and defend it at WrestleMania in a triple threat. Bryan has been vocal about this likely being his last full-time run in the WWE and we could see it possibly come to an end tonight. There was a potential spoiler on Peacock that he may be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year and that makes me question this match even more. Roman Reigns is a -620 favorite and I think he will retain the title, but there are a lot of moving parts in this match and there are a lot of possibilities that could happen. Bryan will turn 40 in May and I think he may be done for good after WrestleMania. If that is the case, he has had a wonderful career and has been one of the most electrifying performers in WWE history.
