Song of the Day: Rooster
Rooster by Alice In Chains. Released in September of 1992 on Alice In Chain’s Dirt album. I know I said this on Tuesday with the song of the day when I said that Counting Crows’ August and Everything After album was a top 5 album of the 90’s, well here’s one of the other 4. There’s so many good songs on Dirt and Rooster might just be the best of the lot. The song was written by Jerry Cantrell, the band’s guitarist, about his father who served in the Vietnam War and whose nickname was the Rooster. Rooster spent 20 weeks on the Rock Billboard and would peak at #7. It always blows my mind when you hear that a song this good only peaked at #7 on the charts. How exactly were there 6 rock songs at the time that people liked more than this??
