AEW Double or Nothing (2021) Predictions

AEW

AEW

AEW Double or Nothing is finally here and we have a loaded card in store for tonight’s action. Things are thrown a little off of schedule because of the NBA Playoffs airing during Dynamite’s normal schedule and it appears that Dynamite will be on TBS starting next year. Along with that announcement, they tacked on that there will be another show on Friday night’s starting in August. This is a great announcement for AEW moving forward and it is pretty apparent that the Turner networks are fans of the product. Along with that announcement, there is talk that there may be additions to the roster, but we’ll see that as time progresses. I think they have a big enough roster, but we’ll see. This card for tonight is big and there are a lot of great matches on it, so let’s dive in.

*Match Card is likely not in exact order

*Predicted winners are bolded

-       Women’s Singles Match: NWA World Women’s Championship

Serena Deeb (C) vs. Riho

AEW

AEW

Unless there are some plans for Riho to jump to NWA for a little bit, I think that this will just be another well-earned victory for Serena Deeb. We haven’t seen a lot from Riho in the last year and a half and it will be nice to see her back in action again, but I don’t think she will win. Riho defeated Deeb on Dynamite in her return back in February, but has only been in 3 matches since. With the great working relationship between NWA and AEW, this is a big toss-up and Riho could win, but I think Deeb will retain since she is considered to be a dual member of NWA and AEW. Also, I will discuss the relationship between NWA and AEW later on.

-       Men’s Singles Match: TNT Championship

Miro (C) vs. Lance Archer

AEW

AEW

This is one of the matches that I am most interested in this weekend. Miro has been an absolute beast in the last couple of months and he just earned the TNT Championship, but the fact that it is considered the “TV” title, changes are going to likely occur more than the AEW Championship. With that being said though, I don’t think Miro will drop the title this early into his reign. Lance Archer could be the opponent he loses the belt to, but I don’t think this is the particular moment that it should happen. We’ll see though. It should be an incredible match.

-       Men’s Casino Battle Royale Match

Winner: Nick Aldis

Last 4: Aldis, Dustin Rhodes, Christian Cage, Powerhouse Hobbs

AEW

AEW

I don’t even know if my winner is a possibility, but I’m going to gamble a little bit. After all, it is called the Casino Battle Royale. The current NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion has a staggering 950-day reign and counting. That kind of title reign is unheard of especially in today’s wrestling. Aldis is a wonderful competitor and would be great competition for AEW talent. Seeing that the NWA Women’s title will be on the line in the Buy-In show, why can’t the NWA Champion show up to the party? It may be in his contract that he can’t work for other promotions, but who knows? The point I’m getting at is the winner gets a future shot at the AEW World Championship and Kenny Omega is doing a belt collector gimmick, so will Omega be the guy to take down Aldis? It is definitely a possibility. I think Aldis will get to 1000 days as champion, but the future title shot doesn’t have a redeemable date as of now. If Aldis isn’t a possibility to be the final man in the Battle Royale, I think Paul Wight will likely be the entry, despite already being declared an announcer for the match. The favorite to win is definitely Christian Cage, but I think Dustin Rhodes is a big underdog who I could see winning the match.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Brian Cage vs. Hangman Adam Page

AEW

AEW

Depending on how long Omega hangs on to the AEW belt, I think they’re setting Page up to be the guy to take him down. They split up at All Out last year and I think they’re setting up for a match that has been a year in the making. Page is a fan-favorite of AEW and he is the right guy to not only win tonight, but take down Omega at a future date. I think this match has big-time potential, but I don’t think it has been as highly anticipated as most of the card.

-       Men’s Tag Team Match

Sting and Darby Allin vs. Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page

AEW

AEW

Sting will be in the ring in a live-action match for the first time in AEW tonight and I am anxiously awaiting it. I can’t see a scenario where Sting and Allin lose this match. Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page are a make-shift team that has only been feuding with them for a few weeks and I just don’t think there’s a ton of build for the match, especially considering that Sting is actually competing in the ring. I was under the impression that Scorpio Sky would be focusing on a singles run, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. I think the hype of Sting being in a match will outweigh any flaws that the build has, but I’m not as interested in this match as I feel like I should be.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Cody Rhodes vs. Anthony Ogogo

AEW

AEW

A lot of people weren’t exactly thrilled with the way this match was built, but nevertheless, it has a lot of potential to be a great match. USA vs. UK. Good vs. Bad. The American Nightmare vs. The British Brawler. This match writes itself and I think that is the beauty in it. This will give Ogogo a chance to really make a name for himself and it will give Cody Rhodes a chance to prove again why he is held in such high regard in AEW. Rhodes will be performing under the American Dream moniker to honor is late father and while some may think it is cheesy, and it is, fans will eat it up. I think Rhodes is probably an overwhelming favorite unless something drastic happens.

-       Women’s Singles Match: AEW Women’s World Championship

Hikaru Shida (C) vs. Dr. Britt Baker DMD

AEW

AEW

If I had only one title match to predict a title change, this would be the one. Shida has held the belt for over a year and has done an incredible job as the champion during a worldwide pandemic, but it is time for a change. Baker has made herself the face of the women’s division and the face of the division should have the gold to reflect that. Baker is money on the mic and her in-ring skills are good enough to be the division’s leader. This match has a lot of potential and I think it possibly has match of the night potential. We’ll see, but I’m excited to watch this match.

-       Men’s Tag Team Match: AEW World Tag Team Championship

The Young Bucks (C) vs. Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston

I could see a title change here, but I think it is highly unlikely. Moxley and Kingston have a good dynamic, but The Young Bucks are far and away the face of the tag team division. They will likely have a long, long reign as champs and even though Kingston and Moxley are big-name opponents, I don’t anticipate them winning tonight. This will likely be a big highlight for a very successful run as tag champs for the Bucks.

-       Men’s Three-Way Match: AEW World Championship

Kenny Omega (C) vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Pac

AEW

AEW

It is highly unlikely that Omega will drop the title, but I really am excited to see this match. I feel like these guys will have great chemistry in a triple threat and I think it definitely has the feel of a memorable match 15 years from now. I, along with a lot of fans I anticipate, are rooting for Orange Cassidy in this match, but realistically he really doesn’t have a shot. All I’m saying is, if AEW decided to pull the trigger with and Orange Cassidy title reign, I would lose my mind and I think the full capacity Daily’s Place would as well. Hopefully that will happen, but I am definitely not anticipating it.

-       Stadium Stampede Match

The Pinnacle vs. The Inner Circle

AEW

AEW

I think this match will be everything that they anticipated with the first Stadium Stampede a year ago with The Inner Circle vs. The Elite, but with fans to react to it. This match has unlimited potential to be great and I think that they will make the most of what will be on display. With that being said, The Inner Circle must disband if they lose. I could see them breaking up, but then again, I really can’t see them going anywhere. The AEW roster is loaded as it is and putting more competitors in the singles division doesn’t make a lot of sense. I think this match is going on last because of its potential to get really crazy, but nevertheless, I’m really anxious to see this match, but if they do too much, it could deaden the impact of the match, hopefully that doesn’t happen.
