Wells Fargo Championship DFS Preview

The PGA Tour is leaving Florida and heading toward the Queen City at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina! I feel excited for this event, as it could be considered our homecoming…being from the Charlotte area, I think it is our duty at The Sports Chief to give you a winning strategy for this one. Not that we don’t try to do that all of the time! Last week was one to forget from my standards, Henley missed the cut…we didn’t really have a chance when 3 of my 6 golfers failed to make it to Saturday…but this weekend is different. Over 150 golfers are slated to play at Quail Hollow and the big names are here…JT, DeChambeau, McIlroy, Rahm and Simpson. You have a plethora of options among long drivers, scramblers, putters and short-gamers.

I can tell you this…I have never been to Quail Hollow…but I can tell you about the weather here haha! The past few days, we have had torrential rains…we have been in a slight drought though and the winds have been up, so the greens may have dried come Thursday morning. Friday is going to be cold…low 60’s for the high and 40’s in the morning. Aside from that, look for comfortable 70’s and overcast all weekend. I hope the golfers are allergy free as well, as grass and tree pollen could create an issue. This course is very long…7,500+ yards and the greens roll easily. Key statistics that I have gathered from are Strokes Gained Off-the-Tee, Tee-to-Green and Approaching the Green. Putting may be a factor, but not the deciding factor I don not believe.

Tier 1: Tony Finau ($9,500)

With everyone seemingly pre-occupied with DeChambeau and Rahm…I think I can sneak in one of the best at $9,500. Tony Finau is 6th in Tee-to-Green, 9th in Approaching the Green and 11th in gaining strokes in total. His all-around game, plus his driving ability make him an excellent choice at this price. Bovada has him at 28/1 to win the tournament and he is my choice. I think he escapes his illustrious drought and gets it done in Charlotte.

Tier 2: Matt Wallace ($7,500)

It is hard to consider this one a Tier 2 option, but the Englishman has been playing like it as of late. Wallace is 5th in Approach, 10th in Tee-to Green and 16th in gaining strokes overall. The beginning of this paragraph starts pretty similar to Finau ironically and at $2k cheaper…its a no-brainer. To be honest, there aren’t many holes in his game either. His driving distance is not at the top, but if he’s gaining strokes everywhere…its hard to fade him. Matt Wallace is at 66/1 on Bovada.

Tier 3: Cameron Davis ($7,100)

Yea…I know…another $7k golfer. This is where it gets amazingly difficult to pick and choose. The Aussie is not great at Around the Green, but I like the fact that he is 11th Off-the-Tee. Davis also ranks 12th in Driving Distance. At this price point, I tend to look for consistency…I want a golfer who will not destroy my lineup, but I want one that could win as well. You heard it here first…don’t be shocked to see Cameron Davis contending and at 125/1 I like our pick even better.
