NXT TakeOver: In Your House (2021) Predictions
Every now and then I like to do NXT predictions and this weekend, we have an NXT PPV. There are currently only 5 matches on the card and there are a lot of interesting matchups, but something just feels off about it. I’m not sure what it is though. We’re going to see the reemergence of the Million Dollar Championship, which I think it pretty cool. Hopefully this show lives up to its potential tonight. Here are my predictions for the show.
*Predicted winners are bolded
*Match card is likely not in exact order
- Men’s Ladder Match: Million Dollar Championship
Cameron Grimes vs. LA Knight
I think this storyline is the best on the card. Grimes feuding with Ted DiBiase and competing against LA Knight is a great feud and I think we’re going to see a great match. Grimes is the favorite here, slightly, but I think Knight gets the belt. The way I see it, DiBiase has been against Grimes this whole time, so naturally, I would think he wants Knight to win. I could see DiBiase aligning himself with Knight over the next little bit and Grimes would ultimately capture the belt at a later date. I think this will be a fun match, but I think LA Knight with the Million Dollar belt seems more natural.
- Women’s Singles Match
Mercedes Martinez vs. Xia Li
I have to be honest, I haven’t really been following this particular feud, so I don’t know what exactly is going on between these two. Xia Li is an overwhelming favorite at -1000. I expected her to be a favorite, but not by that margin. Martinez has odds at +500 and if you’re feeling a little risky, I would take that bet. This is likely going to be a match where Li gets her payback for Martinez “embarrassing” her at the Mae Young Classic a few years ago, so bluntly, I think Li will probably win, but I’m feeling risky so, I’ll take Martinez to be one of the shocking outcomes of the night.
- 6-Man Tag Winner Takes All: North American Championship and NXT Tag Team Championship
Bronson Reed (C) and MSK (C) vs. Legado del Fantasma
I think this match is pretty stupid. Why couldn’t they break this up into two matches? There are only 5 matches on the card, what is one more going to hurt? Reed and MSK are favorites at -850 and I really can’t see this match going any other way. I think this is more telling for Reed than anyone. It tells me that they don’t feeling confident in him defending the singles title. I’m probably thinking too much into that, but I don’t think a champion’s first title defense is in a 6-man tag match is too good of a look.
- Women’s Singles Match: NXT Women’s Championship
Raquel Gonzalez (C) vs. Ember Moon
These ladies have had a solid feud dating back to March, but I think it ends here tonight. I don’t have any odds for this contest, but it would be shocking to see Moon as the favorite anywhere. Not to say it will be a bad match. Quite the opposite. I think this has the potential to be an incredible match. Their two styles don’t match up and more times than not, those types of matchups make the best storylines. I don’t see anyone, besides maybe Toni Storm taking down Gonzalez for the belt. She will likely have a dominant, lengthy title run. And with a big win against someone like Moon would be a great notch in the belt.
- Men’s Fatal 5-Way Match: NXT Championship
Karrion Kross (C) vs. Adam Cole vs. Kyle O’Reilly vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Pete Dunne
I don’t know if there were some spur of the moment changes that had to be made here, but this seems like this match was thrown together within a couple weeks with no plan whatsoever. In these multi-man matches, a lot of times it could signify a title change, but none of Kross’s opponents have any sort of momentum. Cole cut a promo over the last couple of weeks, but other than that, Gargano just lost the NA Championship, O’Reilly has only been in a handful of matches since the start of the year, and Dunne just hasn’t been in many high caliber matches since permanently moving up to NXT. I would be shocked if Kross drops the title tonight.
