Song of the Day: All Along The Watchtower

All Along The Watchtower by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The song was originally written in 1967 by Bob Dylan but 6 months after Dylan released the song, Jimi Hendrix and his band covered the song and the rest is pretty much history. The Hendrix version of the song would go onto to be a top 20 single in 1968 and is an all time classic rock song. The Hendrix version received a Grammy hall of fame award in 2001, it was ranked 47 by Rolling Stone’s top 500 song of all time, ranked as the #1 cover song of all time by Total Guitar, and ranked #5 by Guitar World’s top guitar solos of all time. Every now and then you write an incredible song and get upstaged by Jimi Hendrix, but in all honesty I wouldn’t call it upstaged. Jimi Hendrix was a huge fan of Dylan and his music, borderline obsessed. And Dylan was a fan of Hendrix and even says when he plays All Along The Watchtower he feels like it’s a tribute to Jimi. It’s just two incredible artists that each combined to make this incredible song.
