Extreme Rules (2021) Predictions
It has been nearly a month since our last WWE PPV and here we are again with Extreme Rules. There are currently 6 great matches on the card and with the draft coming up in a couple weeks, we could see a lot of changes on the horizon. I would say expect the unexpected tonight, but we’ll see. I excited for the show and hopefully things turn out well tonight. Here are my predictions for the show.
- Women’s Singles Match
Liv Morgan vs. Carmella
This card is loaded with overwhelming favorites, but that can be a great thing. With this particular match, I’d be surprised to see Liv Morgan lose here. Carmella has nothing to gain or lose here, but if Liv Morgan loses here, she could be pushed back even further. She lost quickly to Zelina Vega on SmackDown and that wasn’t a good sign, but I think things will change tonight. Liv Morgan is too beloved to be held down and I think we are seeing the beginning of a hot streak for Morgan. Liv is a -600 favorite.
- Men’s Triple Threat Match: United States Championship
Damian Priest (C) vs. Sheamus vs. Jeff Hardy
I was surprised to see that this match isn’t going to be an extreme rules match. Sheamus and Hardy have had a long-standing feud and Sheamus and Priest have had a long feud more recently. I think this could’ve been settled with an Extreme Rules match, but here we are. I guess technically it is considered a no-DQ match, but whatever. Priest has been a great champ so far and I really don’t think that will change tonight. Odds are surprisingly very distant with this one as well. Priest is an overwhelming -700 to retain. If you want to take a gamble, Hardy at +650 is really solid considering that this is the US Championship.
- Women’s Singles Match: RAW Women’s Championship
Charlotte Flair (C) vs. Alexa Bliss
I really don’t know how to approach this match. We haven’t seen anything like the new Alexa Bliss in the women’s division and I really can’t decide which way this will go. Flair is the favorite at -230, which happens to be the lowest favorite on the card. It could go either way and Bliss winning here could refresh some things, but at the same time, we could be in for a long reign for Charlotte on RAW. I don’t know. This could also be something that is shaken up by the draft within the next couple of weeks, who knows? I’ll go with Charlotte, but I think Bliss could take the title here.
- Men’s Tag Team Match: SmackDown Tag Team Championship
The Usos (C) vs. The Street Profits
I think this match could lead the show off and I’m expecting a great match between these two teams. I don’t think the Usos will drop the titles here, but if they’re drafted to a different brand, it may be a possibility. They have held the belts for 68 days and that is basically the shelf life of a tag title reign. Even though the odds are in the favor of the champs at -600, I don’t think it is that distant. The Profits could win here.
- Women’s Singles Match: SmackDown Women’s Championship
Becky Lynch (C) vs. Bianca Belair
I haven’t got a chance to talk too much about Becky Lynch since her return, but I love everything that she is doing. She has turned heel, I think only momentarily, but I could never boo her. This title reign has been great and one that has gotten under the skin of fans. That is the goal, right? I think they will swap the belts again. I feel like the match at SummerSlam was executed perfectly for fans to feel bad for Belair and turn their anger on Lynch and it has been successful. I hate when fans rush to judgement with these sorts of things, because they turn in their favor more often than not. They were saying that Belair was getting buried. Seriously? This has only elevated Belair more and as long as these two competitors keep their animosity, both of them will benefit greatly.
- Men’s Extreme Rules Match: Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (C) vs. Demon King Finn Bálor
There are a lot of questions surrounding this match and should there be? Roman Reigns is a huge -1200 favorite at the moment and Demon Finn Bálor has been an unstoppable force every time he has entered the ring. It has been over 2 years since the Demon King has performed and it will be interesting to see what happens. Back to those questions though. Will the Universal Championship be moving back to RAW? The belt has been on SmackDown for 2 years and I think it would do a lot of good for a shakeup. It has been 5 years since Bálor became the first Universal Champion and I can’t believe it has been that long, but how do they protect the Demon King persona in the event of a loss? Well, I don’t know. A lot of fans are going to be upset if the Demon loses, but it is likely to happen. The match between Roman and Lesnar is already set for Crown Jewel and I hate that they’ve already announced this, but it was to be expected. Again, there are a lot of way that they can do this, but if the Demon loses, the backlash probably won’t be as harsh as it would’ve been a couple years ago. With SmackDown getting the first choice in the draft, Roman Reigns will likely be off of the board regardless of what happens, but with this being an Extreme Rules match, a lot can happen.
