Song of the Day: Bat Out Of Hell
Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf. As you probably heard late last week, the artist known as Meat Loaf passed away at the age of 74. I never really knew much music by Meat Loaf but I had heard some of his hits throughout the years. I think just about everybody has heard the song I’d Do Anything For Love. But after the news of his passing last week, I decided to check out some more of his music on Youtube and I have to say that Bat Out Of Hell is an absolute jam. It’s not even a normal song either, it’s like an 8 minute rock opera. Bat Out Of Hell was also the title of the album, which was Meat Loaf’s debut album. And While I knew Meat Loaf was popular back in the day, I did not know he was quite this popular. Bat Out Of Hell has sold over 40 million copies. Selling over 40 million copies is huge accomplishment for an artist’s entire career, but Meat Loaf sold 40 million copies of his debut album. Absolutely incredible. Most lists you look at have it around 5th, give or take, as the top selling album of all time. Another cool story about the album is that while it was released in 1977, the material and the idea for the album had been wrote in 1974 and they had been rejected by pretty much every record company under the sun until finally Cleveland International Records agreed to take the album on their label. I’d have to say that was a great business decision by them
