Song of the Day: End of the Road
Today’s song is a feature from “The Killer” Jerry Lee Lewis. He passed away just a little over a couple weeks ago and he was a big figure in rockabilly music. He released this song in December of 1956 and the version that I’m going with is the Million Dollar Quartet version. I think it is his best. I love the Million Dollar quartet album, in fact, it may be my all-time favorite album period. We hear 4 of the biggest rockabilly influences in a jam session just cutting loose and having fun. Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins all in one session. This song was also the B-side recording of Jerry Lee’s first released single, “Crazy Arms”, which was a Ray Price cover. You can hear both songs on the Million Dollar Quartet album and it’s almost as if you’re getting a first-time live performance.
