Charlotte FC Report: Week 5, 2022

It finally happened! Charlotte FC picked up their first career victory against the New England Revolution in a nice 3-1 victory. Karol Swiderski picked up two goals in the victory and rookie Ben Bender also got his first professional goal in the win. The squad played good defense in the contest and hopefully they can turn their first victory into a winning streak. I think it’s a good possibility that they can. They’ll face FC Cincinnati at home tomorrow afternoon at 5pm.

Charlotte got the win last week, but there are certainly things that can be improved. The early goal from Swiderski gave them the momentum to keep their head above water and from here on out, trying to get ahead early could be a great strategy for them. A more aggressive attack would also be great for fans. Nobody wants to see their team in defensive battle, we want to see goals. It appears that the Swiderski acquisition is definitely paying off and we’re see the players getting more comfortable on the field in each contest.

This week will be somewhat difficult to predict. FC Cincinnati has a track record for being one of the worst MLS teams since their arrival into the MLS. However, they have two wins under their belt this season already. Both of the clubs only have one common opponent and it was DC United. Both teams lost to DC. The guy to look out for will be Brandon Vazquez. He already has 4 goals this season and will look to tack on more in this matchup. Other than that, Cincy only has one more player that has entered the scoring column. Ronald Mattarita. This is obviously a joke, but I have played FIFA 20 a little while back and I started a franchise mode with FC Cincinnati, so I have a knowledge of Vazquez, Zico Bailey, Yuya Kubo and Nick Haggland. Other than that, I don’t recognize any other players on the club. I don’t know if that’s a common thing in soccer, still learning, but they’ve had a lot of turnover in just 2 years.

We’ll see if Charlotte can pick up a win here. I don’t know what to expect as we’re still very early into the season, but I think Charlotte can use that momentum of last week to carry them to a victory here. I think they’re doing fine for their first month of action, but I think we all want to see them go on a nice run.
