WrestleMania 38 (Night 1) Predictions

WWE

The biggest event of the year happens this week in the world of wrestling and we get to enjoy two nights of it again. Both nights have some great matches and those that have been watching each week may already be burned out from the feuds, but I think when we look back on this year’s show, it will be a memorable one. As of now, there will be 7 matches each night and at the biggest wrestling show of the year, there will be some surprises. I won’t be predicting those, but what I will do is predict each match on the card officially. Both nights have a nice card, but I personally like night one the best. We’ll see how turn out, but here are my predictions for the first night.

*Predicted winners are bolded.

WWE

-       Women’s Singles Match: RAW Women’s Championship

Becky Lynch (C) vs. Bianca Belair

Becky Lynch has been champion for 595 consecutive/non-consecutive days. It’s been an unusual title reign(s) to say the least, but she technically has held a belt since WrestleMania 35 without officially losing one. Will it come to an end tonight? I think so. Lynch has been by far the best thing going in the Women’s division and it was in a world of hurt when she had to leave. She and Belair have had a very interesting feud and I personally thought it would’ve been better if Belair and Ronda Rousey switched places, but this is fine. Becky Lynch is a much better champion in my book, but Bianca is one of the best in the division, so I think a title change is due here. Belair is favored currently at -300.

WWE

-       Men’s Singles Match

Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin (w/ Madcap Moss)

This should be a fun match and hopefully it won’t be too rushed. Corbin is a lot better performer than he gets credit for in my opinion and McIntyre is one of the best performers at the moment. McIntyre is heavily favored at -900 and as of now, that is the most favored superstar on the card. There’s nothing really at stake here, but it should be a nice time-filler.

WWE

-       Men’s Tag Team Match: SmackDown Tag Team Championship

The Usos (C) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs

The greatest SmackDown tag champs of all time bring their belts to WrestleMania with a solid 256-day reign attached and this is another fun match. I don’t expect Nakamura and Boogs to win here, but what I do anticipate is a fun entrance for the team. Boogs and Nakamura have been rocking on SmackDown for quite a while now and they’ll showcase those rocking skills on the big stage. The Usos likely will not lose here, but let’s be honest, with the tag titles, anything can happen. Odds are favoring The Usos at -175 right now. Those aren’t high odds, so that furthers my point that anything can definitely happen.

WWE

-       Men’s Tag Team Match

Rey and Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz and Logan Paul

WrestleMania is loaded with quality wrestling matches and a whole lot of entertainment. Here’s where the entertainment part of WWE comes into play. Logan Paul is possibly the most annoying person in the internet world, but even in the WWE, there is a place for him. He’s a natural and I’ve seen people say that they’re surprised by this. I’m not at all. He’s an entertainer. He’s a natural heel and working against the über babyface Mysterios works heavily in his favor. The Mysterios are slightly favored at -150, but it can go either way. If there were belts on the line, I would feel more confident in saying the Mysterios will win, but knowing The Miz, he’ll do anything to get a cheap win.

WWE

-       Men’s Tag Team Match

The New Day vs. Sheamus and Ridge Holland (w/Butch)

It’s a shame that we won’t see an official New Day reunion here, but all isn’t lost. This should be a fun match with some talented in-ring performers. I can’t imagine the personal torment that Ridge Holland has been through over the last 3 weeks. With that being said, this could be a huge match for him. I don’t think Holland and Sheamus will win, but nothing says they can’t look great in defeat. I don’t have odds for this match, but I can’t imagine Woods and Kingston not being favored in this one. I obviously realize Big E won’t be involved, but hopefully he can play a part in the segment somehow.

WWE

-       Men’s Singles Match

Seth Rollins vs.?

We don’t know who Rollins will face until the match starts and I think that is a very interesting thing. Obviously, the speculated opponent is Cody Rhodes, but could they swerve us? It has happened before, but I don’t think they will in this case. If the mystery opponent is Cody Rhodes, Rhodes will win. I can’t imagine a situation in which Cody would lose in his return match. Rollins has nothing to gain or lose here, but Rhodes picking up a win would be huge for him to get on the right track for a mega-push. Who else could It besides Cody Rhodes though? There are reports that Shane McMahon is likely going to be involved somehow, but that would be quite the letdown. Gable Steveson? This could be an interesting one. The 2-time NCAA Wrestling Heavyweight Champion could on the fast-track to a feud with one of the best. Other than that, I can’t really imagine anyone else in this spot though.

WWE

-       KO Show (featuring Stone Cold Steve Austin)

Nobody know if this will wind up being an official match or not, but it is at least an interesting angle. Austin could be performing in his first official match in nearly 20 years this weekend and it really hasn’t sparked the interest that I think they intended it to. Here’s the thing, if he were to have an official match, I would think he would’ve shown up to RAW at least once to promote the match. I personally think it will be a segment where Stone Cold stuns Owens about 3 or 4 times and Owens may get one or two on Austin, but other than that, I don’t think the bell will actually ring. They haven’t done nearly enough to promote it if it will be an actual match. Needless to say though, it will be an entertaining segment, regardless of what it will be officially regarded as.

WWE

-       Women’s Singles Match: SmackDown Women’s Championship

Charlotte Flair (C) vs. Ronda Rousey

They have done all they could to build this feud, but I just don’t think these two are a great pairing. I don’t think they mesh that well. I think it will be a good matchup, but I thought Charlotte and Bianca Belair would’ve been a much better. Nevertheless, this is what we have and I’m not gonna complain. Rousey is the favorite here at -700, which is quite the deficit, but I don’t think she will win. My gut is telling me she will lose in an odd way kind of like WrestleMania 35 and she will ultimately get the belt at a later date. One thing about this match though that I’m not seeing with the rest of the card, I don’t know who is bad and who is good. That’s a huge miscalculation on creative’s part and they didn’t capitalize nearly like they should’ve for this matchup. When you take into account her last RAW title reign and this one, Flair will take a 221-day title reign into Night 1 and it has been a good reign for her. I think Flair wins here personally, but it is likely Rousey will walk out as champ.
