Song of the Day: So Many Roads (Live)
So Many Roads by The Grateful Dead. Live from Soldier Field on July 9th, 1995, which also happened to be the last show played by the band’s leader Jerry Garcia. Garcia would die two months later on August 9th of a heart attack while at a drug rehabilitation center. While nobody would’ve thought this would be Jerry’s last show, it was getting quite apparent that his health had gone down hill quite a bit and he was on his last leg. A beautiful song that ended up being even more powerful and moving due to the events that followed this performance. My favorite part of the song is probably at the 8:20 mark, where Jerry belts out the “ease my soul” line and the goes on for the next couple of minutes signing “so many roads to ease my soul” with the rest of the band backing up with “oooh oooohh”. That part could’ve went on for 10+ mins and I would’ve been happy.
