AEW Double or Nothing Predictions (2022)

I’ll admit, I haven’t been watching wrestling in general like I normally do, but I haven’t missed a AEW PPV Prediction article, so I’m going to keep it going. This is the 4th Double or Nothing in AEW history and it’s incredible that we’re 3 years into the existence of AEW. It doesn’t feel like it has been that long. I feel like the card is great here, but I don’t know. I just don’t feel as excited as I normally do about this one. I don’t have an excuse for it, but I guess I’ll just have to watch and enjoy tonight. There’s a little bit of possible real drama behind the scenes of this one and I’ll talk about it in the article, but if all of it is true, AEW has a big problem on their hands. There are 13 matches on the card. Yes, 13. That’s a lot, but it’s a holiday weekend, so they’re giving fans a reason to stay up late. I’m not gonna waste any more time though. Here are my predictions for tonight’s show.

*Predicted Winners are bolded

AEW

-       Men’s Tag Team Match

Hookhausen vs. Tony Nese and “Smart” Mark Sterling

Hook and Danhausen teaming up is a great gimmick. I don’t know how long they’ll keep it up, but it’s entertaining as all get out. I don’t know how talented Mark Sterling is, but he’s a manager on the screen. I guess we’ll find out tonight. I doubt Hook takes a loss, so that’s why I’m going with his team.

AEW

-       Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final

Samoa Joe vs. Adam Cole

I don’t know if I have said this in any other articles, but it is super cool that Owen Hart is getting honored in some way. He should’ve been honored a long time ago, but I understand his family’s reason for being skeptical about it. Samoa Joe still has a lot left in the tank and Adam Cole is in the prime of his career. I think Cole gets the win here, but to me it is a 50/50 split.

AEW

-       Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final

Dr. Britt Baker DMD vs. Ruby Soho

Just likely the Men’s Final, this is another potential 50/50 split. Baker has more momentum just because of her great title reign, but Soho is the beloved indie darling. I think Baker wins and she and Cole will celebrate as Tourney winners, but who knows, they could do just the opposite. I’d be fine with it either way.

AEW

-       6-Man Tag Team Match

House of Black vs. Death Triangle

See this is where my lack of watching AEW in the last couple weeks would come in handy. I’m picking Death Triangle just because I think they should ride out their momentum, but House of Black is a fairly new trio trying to gain momentum. This is a predicament. Yet another 50/50 split, but that just means it’s booked well.

AEW

-       Women’s Singles Match: TBS Championship

Jade Cargill (C) vs. Anna Jay

This could be a solid matchup. Cargill has been on an absolute tear since winning the belt and should stay undefeated as long as possible. I realize the mid-card belts are meant to act as TV belts and change hands a little more often than the big belts, but I don’t think it’s the right time. It may be the right opponent when it’s all said and done, but I don’t think it is Anna Jay’s time to capture gold. It will come soon enough, but not right now.

AEW

-       Men’s Singles Match

Kyle O’Reilly vs. Darby Allin

Personally, I don’t get all the hype of KOR. He’s great in the ring, but he doesn’t stand out to me. He’s a guy that easily forgettable, but he’s being pushed like a potential title contender. I don’t understand it, but he’ll likely win here. I’m not predicting it because I want something different and Darby is definitely different. Darby should be the guy that they’re pushing to the moon, but I think lost some momentum. We’ll see what happens, but I’ll go with Darby here.

-       6-person Mixed Tag Team Match

American Top Team vs. Sammy Guevara, Tay Conti and Frankie Kazarian

Guevara and Conti have turned into some of the biggest heels in wrestling by complete accident. People hate to see their private relationship in the spotlight and their PDA is garnering a big-time negative reaction. I don’t know why they ever thought it would go over well with fans, but they did initially. With that being said, I really, really hope American Top Team wins.

AEW

-       Anarchy in the Arena Match

Jericho Appreciation Society vs. Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz

This feud has been really good, but the names of these teams are whack. Nevertheless, the match should be great and entertaining. I don’t think they’ll halt the momentum of Moxley and Danielson, so I don’t think they’ll eat a loss here. I could be wrong, but I don’t think that will be the case.

AEW

-       Men’s Tag Team Match

The Young Bucks vs. The Hardys

If this match happen 5 years ago it would be incredible, but it’s 2022. It still should be a great showing, but it likely isn’t going to live up to the full potential of what could’ve been. But still, it’s two of the best tag teams in the history of wrestling facing each other on a big stage in the end, so I can’t complain. I’m going with the Bucks.

AEW

-       Men’s Singles Match

MJF vs. Wardlow

Like many fans of AEW, we’re all wondering if this match is actually going to happen. There were reports that MJF may have walked out on AEW and left Las Vegas, but nobody knows if that is completely true. I always think something is a work in wrestling until proven otherwise, so I’m not going to speculate here. If AEW lets MJF walk away though, they’re doomed. No ifs, ands or buts, they’re doomed. I think Wardlow will win regardless. That is, if the match is still on for the night. It has been a great feud nevertheless.

AEW

-       Men’s Tag Team Three-Way Match: AEW World Tag Team Championship

Jurassic Express (C) vs. Team Taz vs. Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee

This may be match of the night when it’s all said and done. I think Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus will probably drop the belts tonight, but since it’s in Vegas, I’m feel taking a bit of a gamble with some of these picks. I’ll take a successful title defense here, but I’m not expecting it. The current champions have held the belts for 141 days. It may be time to drop them to another team.

AEW

-       Women’s Singles Match: AEW Women’s World Championship

Thunder Rosa (C) vs. Serena Deeb

AEW should be embarrassed with how they have utilized their new champion. Thunder Rosa is money and she’s a good talker. This is one thing that they have gotten completely wrong since the start of the promotion. The women haven’t been featured hardly at all and when they are, it’s barely enough time to even matter. I’m not saying half the card should be women’s matches if there aren’t 50% women on the roster, but they aren’t featured nearly enough. This should be a hard-hitting and fun match and I think the champ will retain.

AEW

-       Men’s Singles Match: AEW World Championship

Hangman Adam Page (C) vs. CM Punk

I think it’s time. CM Punk hasn’t gained quite the momentum that I thought he would’ve, and his run isn’t all that I thought it would be, but it’s time to make him champ. He’s been a full-time performer since his return and has elevated a bunch of performers in this run. With that being said, Punk doesn’t need the belt like Page, but it is clearly a big goal of his. I expect Punk to win here and carry the belt into the Forbidden Door PPV at least, and possibly All Out. I’m not a Punk fan, but I think it’s time.
