Charlotte FC Report: Week 16, 2022
The bye week has come and gone, and we have some Charlotte FC action today. The home club is currently tied for a playoff spot at the moment, but I have to say, things are looking a little grim at the moment. They have a new coach and things may be a little different. They could turn out better and I think that is what we’re all hoping for, but for now it’s just a game of wait and see. The much-needed rest was probably for the best for this club. They could take time to reassess things within the club and work to improve on the field. There have been a lot of bright spots for the club this season, but there are certainly a lot of things to work on.
Charlotte faces one of their toughest opponents yet in the New York Red Bulls. They’re currently 4th in the East and they’re a lot better team than the table shows. They have a high-octane offense led by the leg of Scottish midfielder, Lewis Morgan. It’s his first season with the club and has made a huge impact. Along with their potent offense, they have a pretty stiff defense as well. They score a lot and don’t give up a lot in return. Charlotte will have the home-field advantage, but with that being said, they have faced this team already and it ended in a 3-1 defeat. Although Charlotte controlled most of the possession, they couldn’t seem to get any great looks on the strike and the Red Bulls utterly dominated the match. Since it was an Open matchup, they didn’t have their full squad dressed, but neither did New York. I’m expecting a similar result in today’s contest, but hopefully that isn't the case.
It will be a tough match for Charlotte today. I think best case scenario here is a draw at home. This is a strong NY team that they’re playing against and I think if they can walk away with a draw, they will earn some momentum back. A blowout loss will set them further back and hopefully we don’t see another one of those. Andre Shinyashiki has a birthday today so hopefully he can get himself on the board as a birthday present to himself. Start time is at 3, so don’t forget to turn on that TV and tune in.
