Charlotte FC Report: Week 18, 2022

It was a draw last week for the home club. Charlotte and Columbus both had a goal each in last week’s contest and while the action was getting intense in the end, neither team could pull ahead in the closing minutes. Andre Shinyashiki scored the lone goal for Charlotte and he has now moved into a share of the lead of the most goals in the club with 4. Karol Swiderski has been missing some time due to International duties but should be back fairly soon. A draw was fine for last week’s match, but that first road win would have obviously been pretty great. This week, the Charlotte club has two MLS contest, so hopefully they can move up the standings, but they’re not going to be easy matches.

USA Today Sports

First Charlotte is facing CF Montreal yet again, but this time they’re travelling to Canada. They played last month in Charlotte and it was a disappoint contest for Charlotte. They lost the match 2-0 and couldn’t seemingly buy a good look at the goal. Hopefully it will be different this time tonight. One good thing about Montreal is the fact that they still allow a lot of goals. They’re one of the worst in that area in all of MLS, however, they supplement that as being one of the most prolific scoring teams in the MLS. Djordje Mihailovic has been a superstar this season for the Canadian club and his 7 goals lead the club. Hopefully this time Charlotte can get on the board at least, but obviously a win or draw against a club like this is ideal.

Austin FC

Charlotte has two contests this week and this will be their first Thursday contest in club history and it will be time they meet up with Austin FC and speaking of prolific scoring clubs, Austin FC is among the top in the MLS as well. Sebastián Driussi is the leading goal scorer with 8 for the club and Diego Fagundez lead the club in assists. Currently Austin FC is the third best team in the MLS and it will be a tough midweek matchup for Charlotte. Really the only thing going for them is the fact that they’re back home in Charlotte. For both contests the key will be getting on the board first and maintaining momentum. Both of the opposing clubs are very good and killing their momentum will be crucial. Hopefully Charlotte doesn’t head into Week 19 in too bad of shape, but with matchups like these, you kind of expect the worst, but hope for the best. It’s sad to say, but it’s true. I hope next week’s Charlotte FC Report will be a positive one, but for now it’s an optimistic one.
