AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door Predictions
This has taken a little longer than expected in my opinion, but we finally have a dual promotion PPV between AEW and NJPW. I admit, I don’t watch a lot of New Japan, but this PPV is really interesting because it feels almost taboo in the wrestling industry. Combining two promotion to put on one big show is a massive thing in the wrestling world. Obviously, it has been done in the past, but on a much smaller scale. The best that AEW and NJPW have to offer are going to be in action tonight. As of now, there are 12 matches on the card, so it’s going to be a long show yet again, but I think it will be worth the price of admission. Most of the explanation I will have will be very basic, because I really only know AEW wrestlers. I do know the marquee NJPW names, but I have very little knowledge of Japanese wrestling. So, with that being said, here are my predictions for the show.
*Predicted winners will be bolded
- Men’s 8-Man Tag Match
Gunn Club and Max Caster vs. Yuya Uemura and NJPW LA Dojo
I have no clue who the NJPW team is here, but like all of these matches, I’m excited to learn some wrestlers. I can almost say that I feel like I’m walking into a lot of these blindly kind of like when AEW first started and that’s a good thing. I’ll take the AEW team because that’s the one I know. I know it’s not the best way to predict things, but that’s what I’ll have to do for a lot of these.
- Men’s Tag Team Match
The Factory vs. Bishamon
Solo and Marshall of The Factory haven’t had much luck in AEW this year, so I’m going with the NJPW team. I know nothing about Bishamon, but going in blindly, I think they’ll win regardless.
- Men’s Tag Team Match
Swerve in Our Glory vs. Suzuki-gun
Again, I have no idea who Suzuki-gun is, but seemingly Swerve and Lee have set aside their differences and are a cohesive unit yet again. At least, I think they are. We’ll see what happens, but I think Lee and Swerve will take the win here.
- Three-Way Winner Takes All Tag Team Match: IWGP and ROH World Tag Team Championships
FTR vs. Roppongi Vice vs. United Empire
FTR has been the hottest tag team in wrestling for the last year or so and regardless of who is in the match, I think FTR is going to win. It’s just one of those things you come to expect these days. They’re one the best teams of this generation and it’s good to see them doing what a lot of us knew they were capable of. This should be a fun tag contest.
- Men’s 6-Man Tag Match
Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and Minoru Suzuki vs. Eddie Kingston, Wheeler Yuta and Shota Umino
I’ll give Jericho’s team the advantage here. Kingston doesn’t have his normal help and I think that will be the downside for him. The feud will continue at Blood and Guts next week, so I think if Jericho and Guevara get a sneaky win, it will add even more fuel to the upcoming match.
- Men’s Singles Match: IWGP United States Championship
Will Ospreay (C) vs. Orange Cassidy
This will be a fun match. Ospreay is considered by many as one of the top wrestling acts in the world right now and if you pair that up with the sloth-style wrestling of Orange Cassidy, you have pure entertainment. With that being said, I think Ospreay will retain.
- Men’s Singles Match
Zack Sabre Jr. vs. TBD
Nobody knows who will Bryan Danielson will choose and at this point, who is left? Gargano? Claudio (formerly known as Cesaro)? Who knows? I feel like I’m the old man yelling at a cloud here. AEW is loaded. Why do we need more people? I’m not going to say anymore and I’m not even going to predict a winner here. Most of the time I do, but I just don’t feel like it here. I’ll just watch and be entertained.
- Women’s Singles Match: AEW Women’s World Championship
Thunder Rosa (C) vs. Toni Storm
I would have to say Thunder Rosa will likely be the winner here, but I’m going with a little element of surprise. It’s Toni Time! Rosa has had a super underwhelming title run, but I don’t necessarily put the blame on her for that. She’s really good, I guess sometimes the timing isn't right for a lot of things and I just don’t think it’s the right time for her. Hit refresh with Toni and let’s see what she can do with the belt.
- Men’s 6-Man Tag Team Match
Bullet Club vs. Dudes with Attitude
Takahashi will not be in this match with Sting and Darby, but I think the Bucks and the Bullet Club will win regardless. There have to be some surprises in this show and currently they’re the underdog. This should be a fun match.
- 4-Way Match: AEW All-Atlantic Championship
Miro vs. Pac vs. Malakai Black vs. Clark Connors
Obviously, Miro is going to be the favorite here, but I have a feeling that this is going to be Pac’s match. He has the third best odds in this one, but I think his run in AEW has been good, but it hasn’t come close to living up to its potential. I think Pac will redeem himself here and become the first All-Atlantic Champion.
- 4-Way Match: IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
Jay White (C) vs. Hangman Adam Page vs. Kazuchika Okada vs. Adam Cole
This one probably isn't going to end the show, but I’m predicting it will be Match of the Night. Okada is an elite-level wrestler and was just defeated by Jay White less than 2 weeks ago. I think it’s likely the White retains here, but I just want a lot of shake up in the show. I don’t think Page or Cole have a real shot here, but it would be cool to see them hold a NJPW belt in AEW. I’m predicting Okada becomes a 7-Time Heavyweight Champ tonight.
- Men’s Singles Match: Interim AEW World Championship
Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
The first time I watch Tanahashi was at Wrestle Kingdom 14 against Chris Jericho. I was immediately a fan of him after that match. With that being said does he have a shot here? I really think he does. Moxley is the favorite for obvious reasons, but depending on how long CM Punk will be on the shelf, it’s plausible for Tanahashi to win the AEW interim belt and hold it until Punk comes back. It’s possible and I think it would be cool, but I don’t think it’s likely. I think Moxley will win the belt tonight.
