Charlotte FC Report: Week 30, 2022
I can't believe that we are this far into the season and soon it will all be over. Last week, Charlotte FC picked up another surprised 3 points against NYCFC. They defeated the defending MLS Champions twice this season and it is the first time in MLS history that an expansion team defeated the defending champs at least twice in a season. While this season has been filled with ups and downs, there have been a lot of good moments and last week was another good moment added to the list. Charlotte FC defeated NYCFC, 1-0, and the lone goal came from the leg of Daniel Rios in the 5th minute. It is also worth noting that Christian Fuchs was given a red card and he will miss today’s match. Fuchs is the only player on Charlotte FC to be given a red card and this was his second of the season. In other news, MLS released a list of their top selling jerseys this year and there were two Charlotte FC players in the Top 10. Christian Fuchs had the second highest selling jersey for the year and Karol Swiderski was 7th on the list. That is a pretty great accomplishment if you ask me. Today’s game is a must-win if the Charlotte is going to be in the playoffs this season. They’re only 4 points away from the cutoff line and hopefully they can get 3 today.
They meet Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field tonight and it is a must-win. A draw will be no good at this point in the season. With only 4 games left in the season, Charlotte must treat it like it is their last game of the season. October’s schedule will be pretty brutal, so like I said, a win is a must. Chicago defeated Charlotte in Charlotte back in August and it will be a tough matchup for our club yet again. On the road, it is no secret that Charlotte struggles, but against a team like this, I think they can pick up the win. Chicago hasn’t set the world on fire, no pun intended. They are below Charlotte in the standings, technically tied, but they have played in one more match than Charlotte. On paper, they’re very similar, but I will give Charlotte a slight edge at a neutral site. With that being said, how will Charlotte play on the road tonight? Kacper Przybylko scored 2 goals in the last meeting and Federico Navarro tacked on another one as well. Yordy Reyna and Karol Swiderski picked up a goal each in that matchup and hopefully they will both be in the lineup today. I’m not expecting a win today, but I really hope they can get 3 against Chicago tonight.
