NFL Top 10 Power Ranking (After Week 8)

SI

We are already 8 weeks through the NFL season and things are kind of settling in, I would say. Some teams are regress from hot starts, but I would say most teams are right where they should/will be. The Niners have tumbled out of the Top 10 after losing 3 straight games. I don’t know what is going on in San Fran, but they this is the wrong time to be trending downward. The Bengals didn’t make the cut this week, but if they keep playing the way that they are, it won’t be too long before they will find their way back. I wouldn’t say there will be a ton of shifts from last week, but keep reading to find out.

10: Buffalo Bills (5-3)

I gave the Bills one more shot to redeem themselves before they dropped out of the Top 10 and they saved themselves for now. The Bills ranking remains unchanged from last week and I think this is a perfect place for them. They weren’t awesome on Thursday night, but teams rarely are to be fair . They took early control and beat the Bucs in a short week contest. They have the red hot Bengals on Sunday night this week, so week could see a swap in next week’s rankings.

9: Cleveland Browns (4-3)

The Browns lost this week and I debated on leaving them out this week, but I think that is unfair. They had a tough road matchup and they were kept the action close all game long. they honestly should’ve won the game. A late score by the Seahawks settled the game and the Browns took an L. They live to fight another week inside the Top 10. I feel like the Browns can compete with any team in the NFL and if they start getting consistent QB play, then they could be contenders.

8: Seattle Seahawks (5-2)

Seattle won in thrilling fashion on Sunday and continue to be inside the Top 10. It feels like the Seahawks are one player away from being real contenders. It just seems like there is something missing, but they have most of what they need to keep winning games. The Browns are a tough team to beat at home or on the road. They have the Ravens coming up and it will be another big test for them. We will see how they respond, but it should be a great matchup.

7: Dallas Cowboys (5-2)

I omitted Dallas from last week’s ranking and that may have been a bit unfair, but sometimes you’re just a victim of the bye week. Dallas had a big win against the Rams this week and while I wouldn’t call the Rams good, they are a team that can give you a tough time. The Cowboys looked like contenders on Sunday. I still really have no clue who they are week to week, but for now, they’re very good. That may change next week, but they looked like a very good team in Week 8. The Eagles are next for Dallas and they could prove themselves or settle in the back half of the Top 10. We’ll see.

6: Detroit Lions (6-2)

The Lions picked up a good Monday night win at home against the Raiders. Again, the Raiders aren’t very good, but a win is a win. Especially after the Lions got beat down by the Ravens in Week 7. Jahmyr Gibbs took a step forward this week and their run attack will be crazy good once David Montgomery returns. The Lions have a bye week coming up, so they may be victims of the bye week in next week’s rankings, but for now, they will remain just outside of the Top 5.

5: Jacksonville Jaguars (6-2)

The Jags remain in the Top 5. They had a big win against the Steelers on the road. It is never easy going to Pittsburgh and winning, no matter what caliber of team the Steelers are. They currently have the longest active winning streak in the NFL with 5 straight wins. Jacksonville also has a bye coming up in Week 9, so we’ll see where they are next week. They remain a Top 5 team for now.

4: Baltimore Ravens (6-2)

The Ravens didn’t look awesome against the Cardinals in Week 8, but they got a win. The Ravens will have a tough contest with the Seahawks in Week 9, but it is certainly a game that they can win. They will be facing a tough offensive matchup, but their defense has been super strong this year. I think when all is saiid and down this season, they will have a Top 5 defense.

3: Kansas City Chiefs (6-2)

The Chiefs endured a bad loss to the Broncos on Sunday, but I don’t think they should drop too far due to the fact that they only have two losses. Also, the Broncos are on a bit of a resurgence and the Chiefs were on the road in the Denver air with Mahomes playing with the flu. Their defense is still playing well and don’t pretend that their offense is going to struggle forever. They’re still a top team and I don’t think the Broncos loss is going to change that.

2: Miami Dolphins (6-2)

If the Dolphins can figure things out on defense, then I say they are the team to beat. The offense is by far the best in the NFL and it isn’t particularly close. Tua looks great and Tyreek Hill does as well. I didn’t mention it above, but the Dolphins and Chiefs are facing each other in the next week’s matchup in Germany. So, be ready for an early morning matchup on Sunday. It should be a good one.

1: Philadelphia Eagles (7-1)

Philadelphia is the best team in football for the week. I personally thought that they would go on a skid, but they have proved me wrong. The defense has been hit or miss for them though. They gave up 31 points to Washington in both of their meetings this year and they have a tough 5 games ahead of them. They will be facing 5 Top 10 caliber teams coming up and it will be tough for them to maintain their spot at the top. We’ll see how it goes for them, but for now, Fly Eagles Fly.
