NFL Top 10 Power Ranking (After Week 13)

USA Today Sports

A lot of good teams lost this week, a little bit of change up towards the top of the rankings this week. We also have two new teams to add to the Top 10. Never, did I ever think that these two teams would be competing for playoff spots in December, but here we are. As for the teams that dropped out, they were both AFC North teams. The Browns and Steelers are both out of my Top 10 this week due to bad losses in Week 13. The Steelers lost to the Cardinals in a weather delayed mess, but the Browns got obliterated by the Rams last week. Teams are trying to scramble in and out of the Top 10 and it is a sign that things are getting pretty serious in the NFL. The Broncos had a tough loss this week, but they have been on the outside looking in for quite some time. Also, look out for the Packers, Rams, and Falcons. They’re all starting to get a little hot. Without further ado, let’s see what the Rankings look like this week.

10: Indianapolis Colts (7-5)

I can’t believe I writing this, but the Colts are inside the Top 10 in 2023. Gardner Minshew torched the Titans on Sunday and practically eliminated the last shred of hope they had this season. The Colts have had defensive struggles all season, so don’t expect this to last, but for now, they in the Top 10.

9: Houston Texans (7-5)

Same as the Colts. I never expected the Texans to be a Top 10 team, but I’m thinking that they could really make some noise if given the chance. CJ Stroud has clearly been the best QB to come out of the last draft and each and ever week, he is making the Panthers fan base queasy. He also has been generating MVP buzz, so keep an eye on him for the rest of the season. I think he will be terrorizing opposing defenses for quite a while and for now, the Texans appear to be legit.

8: Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4)

The Jags suffered a bad loss this week to the Bengals. I have said it pretty much all season, but the Jags aren’t as good as their record shows. Sure, Trevor Lawrence got banged up, but to make a undrafted, backup that has been in the league for 4 years without ever taking a snap before this season, look like an elite QB. That takes a serious level of suckage. I know that isn’t a word, but you get the point. Don’t be surprised if they’re overtaken by Houston and/or Indy in the next couple of weeks. They have the Browns and Ravens in the next two.

7: Kansas City Chiefs (8-4)

The Chiefs had a bad loss this week against Green Bay. Sure, the Packers have been looking better in the last month or so, but if you’re the Chiefs, you can’t be dropping games to them. This week, you can say it was a bad week for them to lose. A lot of this teams above them won, or if they didn’t, they lost to other good teams. I don’t think think the Chiefs will be on the back end of the Top 10 for long, but for now, they are.

6: Detroit Lions (9-3)

The Lions almost gave one away on Sunday to the Saints, but they pulled through. They looked unbeatable in the first half of the game, but almost lost it. I wouldn’t say they have been in a good stretch, but they’re still a team that you don’t to face at this point in the season. I think you could switch the Chiefs and Lions this week and it would be about the same, but I will give the Lions the edge this week. They have a favorable schedule coming up, so don’t look for them to drop out of the Top 10 for the rest of the year.

5: Miami Dolphins (9-3)

The Dolphins have been the best offensive team in football for quite some time, but their defensive woes have weighed them down just a bit. Well, it looks like the defense is starting to come around for them now. Sure, the didn’t have a tough matchup in the Commanders this week, but they looked good on defense. They have consistently kept teams under two scores in the last 3 games. If this defense is playing up to par, the Dolphins could be the favorites out of the AFC.

4: Dallas Cowboys (9-3)

Dallas had a good shootout win against Seattle on Thursday and Dak Prescott MVP discussion is becoming more and more of a reality. We’ll see if they are who we think they are in the coming matchups though. They have a very tough month ahead of them.

3: Philadelphia Eagles (10-2)

The Eagles got embarrassed at home against the 49ers. Sure, the 49ers are a great team, but still. I have said all season that I don’t think the Eagles are the best team in football, but they’re good at making you think they are. They win tight games and play tough, but they can be exposed and that was evident on Sunday. I still think they’re a Top 5 team, but they haven’t really played like the best at anything all season long.

2: Baltimore Ravens (9-3)

I debated on dropping the Ravens a little bit due to the bye week, but I don’t think its was warranted. The Ravens have arguably the best defense in football and the only other argument could be from the team above them this week. Their next 5 weeks of football will be tough, but they’re going to be up for the challenge. The AFC North is their’s to lose at this point.

1: San Francisco 49ers (9-3)

We have a new number 1. It isn’t a shock to see the Niners back at the top and even when they were in the stretch of 3 straight losses, you just knew they would be back from it. Brock Purdy very well may win the NFL MVP this year and that is crazy to think because of the fact that literally everybody in the draft passed on him except the Niners picking dead last. They have found their groove again and a pretty favorable schedule coming up, so I don’t see it changing for the rest of the season, unless there is a big injury.
