Song of the Day: She's A Rainbow
She’s A Rainbow by The Rolling Stones. Released in December of 1967 on their 6th UK studio album and 8th US studio album, Their Satanic Majesties Request. The title is apparently a play on the the phrase “Her Britannic Majesties Request” which features on all UK passports. Obviously the title of this album didn’t go over so well and in some countries it didn’t fly at all, with them having to change the name of the album altogether. But one thing that can be said about this song and the album, is how similar it sounds to The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s album, which had come out just 6 months prior. The band would catch some slack for the similarities in the two albums and it would end up being The Stones’ only psychedelic album. They returned to their rock and blues roots after their one attempt. Fun fact about the song, it features John Paul Johns of the yet to be formed Led Zeppelin. Just how Jimmy Page was a studio guitarist, John Paul Johns also was a recording artist prior to Led Zeppelin and he plays the string section on this song which you can hear during the piano parts of the song.
