Song of the Day: The City of New Orleans
The City of New Orleans by Arlo Guthrie. The song was originally written by Steve Goodman who was a country/folk artist from Chicago. One night in a bar in Chicago, Goodman saw Arlo Guthrie and asked if he could play him a song. Guthrie agreed to listen to a song but only if Goodman bought him a beer and said that he’d only listen to the song for as long as it took him to drink the beer. Well the rest is history. Guthrie liked the song so much he asked if he could record it, which he did a year later and turned it into a hit. The song has been covered numerous times since and the most notable cover since Guthrie’s was Willie Nelson in 1984 which took the song to the top of the US Country charts. Good morning America how are you? Man what a chorus.
