AEW Double or Nothing (2023) Predictions
I can't believe this will be the 4th Double or Nothing PPV. It seems like last it was only a week ago. AEW has been going strong for 4 years and they are only getting bigger. They will have a new weekly Saturday show starting in June, their new video game is releasing at the end of June. It is a big time for AEW. As of now, there are 10 matches on the card. 9 main card matches. AEW always delivers on their PPVs and I expect them to deliver again tonight. I know we will get to see a lot of great in-ring action and we will definitely get our money’s worth in tonight’s show. Let’s not waste any more time though. Here are my predictions for tonight’s show.
*Predicted winners are bolded
- 6-Man Tag Team Match
The Gunns and Ethan Page vs. The Hardys and Hook
At the moment, this is the only pre-show match. It will also be Jeff Hardy’s first match in a year. His last match was when he and his brother teamed up to beat The Young Bucks at Double or Nothing. I really hope Jeff can remain level-headed in this run. The fans love Jeff and no matter how many times he screws up, they will always love him. With that being said, I don’t think he should be wrestling. I think he can definitely be involved in the wrestling business in one way or another, but I don’t think he should wrestle. It isn't the best occupation for someone with substance and alcohol abuse issues. Focusing in the match though, I think The Hardys and Hook will win. Vegas seems to think so as well. They are -4000 favorites.
- Ladder Match: TNT Championship
Wardlow (C) vs. Christian Cage
Let’s be honest, the TNT Championship changes hands pretty often, so Christian Cage winning the belt wouldn't be a very big deal. I think this should be a great match though. Wardlow is favored at -1000, but I there have to be some surprise endings in this show. I think this will be one of them.
- Women’s Singles Match: TBS Championship
Jade Cargill (C) vs. Taya Valkyrie
The champ is favored and as far as her losing the belt, I will believe it when I see it. Taya Valkyrie is one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world and she is a great matchup for Jade, but she likely isn't going to win. I have enjoyed the feud that the two have had for a little while, but I don’t think a title change will happen. It will be interesting to see who takes down Jade though. She has over 60 wins without a loss. Talk about domination. Valkyrie could sneak a win and they have built her up enough to get the win, but like I said, I’ll believe it when I see it.
- Blackjack Battle Royal: AEW International Championship
WINNER: Jay White
FINAL FOUR: Jay White, Orange Cassidy (C), Ricky Starks, Juice Robinson
The odds are against Orange Cassidy in this Battle Royal. 21 men will compete for the International Championship and it is the first time a belt has been on the line in a battle royal setting. Part of me thinks Cassidy could retain, but I think there are too many guys that could win. OC has had a great run with the belt, but I think it is Jay White’s time to hold some gold. I think he and Juice will have their attention on Ricky Starks, but I think it will be White’s shot to win if Juice is distracted by Starks.
- Men’s Tag Team Match: AEW World Tag Team Championship
FTR (C) vs. Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal
It is really cool seeing Double J competing at this level at 55 years old. He and Jay Lethal are a solid team and I think they will have quite a bit of success together, but I don’t think they will win this match. FTR haven’t been champs for very long and I don’t anticipate them dropping the belts only 53 days into their reign. It should be a good old-school wrasslin’ match though.
- 6-Man Tag Team Match: AEW World Trios Championship
House of Black (C) vs. ???
I will not be giving a prediction here, but it will be interesting to see who will face the champs here. My guess is that it will probably be The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn. If that is the case, it wouldn't surprise me to see HOB drop the belts, but I don’t know. I think they need a good run with the titles.
- Men’s Unsanctioned Match
Chris Jericho vs. Adam Cole
I think we will start to see another big run from Adam Cole. He is one of the biggest stars in AEW and one of the best in-ring performers. Cole and Jericho should put on a show in this contest. It was also an interesting layer adding Sabu to the mix. I never thought I would see Sabu back on a nationally televised program, but here we are. The ECW legend will be the guest enforcer and I expect things to get a little crazy. Who knows, he may bring along some more of his hardcore friends. It should be a solid chaotic match, but I’ll give Cole the slight edge.
- Women’s Singles Match: AEW Women’s World Championship
Jamie Hayter (C) vs. Toni Storm
For me, this is a toss-up. I could see the result going either way. These are two of the best female wrestlers not only in AEW, but the world. They should put on a fantastic match and I think we will probably see a lot of out of the ring things going on between the rest of The Outcasts and Britt Baker and Rebel. Toni Storm’s title reign is recognized as an official reign, but at the time it wasn’t. I think she will get her official shot at being champ and it wouldn't surprise me if we get that Thunder Rosa/Storm match that we were supposed to see at All Out last year. Hayter is favored slightly in this match.
- Anarchy in the Arena
Blackpool Combat Club vs. The Elite
These matches are always pretty entertaining. Sometimes they can be a bit too much, but for the most part, they deliver. The Elite are the favored team in this contest but only slightly. The momentum of Hangman Page rejoining The Elite should put them over the edge though. Ever since his departure, CM Punk has garnered a lot of attention. Fans can't stop talking about him. Good or bad, he has dominated the AEW news. If he appears tonight, it will likely be in this match to give the BCC the edge. However, I personally don’t think he will show up tonight. We’ll see though. I think The Elite will win.
- 4-Way Match: AEW World Championship
MJF (C) vs. Darby Allin vs. Jungle Boy Jack Perry vs. Sammy Guevara
It would shock me to see any of these guys take the belt off of MJF, however, I would like to see it. MJF will likely continue his reign of terror, but what if he drops the belt? Darby, Sammy, and Jungle Boy are all included in the Pillars of AEW and their odds follow in that order. I think all of these guys will be AEW Champs at some point in their careers, but right now? I don’t think so. I think these guys will lay it all on the line for the belt and will solidify their case for future title opportunities. If MJF loses, I think Darby has the most convincing case to win it. He and Sting have teased a future story with MJF and I think there could be a good story there. The main event should be a great match, I’m anxious to see what happens. MJF currently sits at -5000.
