Song of the Day: Stranger in My Own Home Town (Jam)

Here’s an old blues style song from Elvis Presley. This particular version was featured on a special 2019 American Sound 1969 release, which featured studio takes of some of his most popular songs. It was recorded in the American Sound Studio in Memphis and not only did Elvis record some of his most well-known songs in this place, but Neil Diamond recorded, “Sweet Caroline”, and BJ Thomas recorded, “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head,” and “Hooked on a Feeling” in the building as well. Dusty Springfield recorded, “Son of a Preacher Man” in the studio also.

The album was a Record Store Day special on vinyl and there is also a 5-CD soundtrack as well. This particular version is pretty cool because like the title says, it is a jam session. They are just rocking out and Elvis is doing his thing on the mic. I wish there were more albums with Elvis not only doing blues songs, but with him and his TCB Band just jamming. There is another version of the song where they slow it down in a real blues style, but you will just have to look that one up. It is very good and I recommend listening to it.
