Song of the Day: Stompin' at the Savoy
Happy Friday everyone! Are you ready for some sweet Jazz?!?!? Benny Goodman, also known as the, “King of Swing” released, “Stompin at the Savoy” in 1936. The style of this song truly exudes early 20th century American music. You can just place yourself in a cozy house with the fireplace crackling and the old cathedral Philco radio blasting this tune. Many other artists performed this one and Benny wasn’t the first. Night clubs were raging back then and the Savoy happened to be a Ballroom in the Harlem area of New York City. If you go down a deep enough rabbit hole researching how they got the name, it came from a luxury hotel in London. Unfortunately, you are unable to see the ballroom as it was demolished in 1959. I hope you enjoy this Benny Goodman classic and have a wonderful August weekend!
