Best Bets of the Day (March 23rd)

Today is a new day and another day to bet on some sports. Yesterday, we were saved by James Madison’s ML win. They dominated that game against Wisconsin and I am pretty confident that they can beat Duke tomorrow. Speaking of Duke, we had Vermont +12 yesterday and Vermont completely imploded in the last 5 minutes. They had a chance to win and decided not to score in the last 5 minutes of the game. Also, Auburn had no business losing to Yale. The outcome would have likely been different if Chad Baker-Mazara weren’t ejected at the 3-minute mark of the game, but I guess we’ll never know. Today is a new day, there are a lot of college basketball bets that I like today, but I’m not going all college basketball today. I’m throwing in a hockey today as well as my first women’s college basketball bet. Stick around and find out what I am betting today.

-       Women’s NCAA Tournament – Round of 64

Caitlin Clark Under 33.5 points (-110) vs. Holy Cross

This is in no way a slight against Caitlin Clark. She has been the most buzz-worthy women’s basketball player over the last couple of years, and you could probably remove the word “women’s” from this sentence. She can light the scoreboard up quickly and it appears that Iowa is poised for a deep run in the tournament, yet again. However, in the 10 games that Iowa has won by 30 points or more this season, Caitlin Clark averaged 27.9 PPG. In fact, she only reached 34 points or more 1 time in those 10 games. They shouldn’t need her badly today. The spread is set at -37.5, obviously in Iowa’s favor. The stats say that Caitlin Clark will not drop 34 points today. I think Iowa will win by at least 30 and Caitlin Clark will have a somewhat relaxed day in their Round of 64 matchup against Holy Cross.

-       NHL Regular Season

New Jersey Devils (-1.5) (+142) vs. Ottawa Senators

The NHL has a pretty full slate today, but there aren't many games that I like, but I do like this one. The Devils have been playing pretty good hockey over the last couple of weeks and they have home ice against a struggling Senators team. The Devils puck line record at home this season is not inspiring, so I am not even going to say what it is, but Ottawa is a bad road hockey team. 10-20-2 record on the road for Ottawa. The projected goalie matchup is between Jake Allen and Joonas Korpisalo. Allen has been pretty hot in his last 3 games, while Korpisalo has been the opposite. This will be my riskiest pick of the day, but I think it will go in favor of the Devils. Also, Luke Hughes may have found his groove. He has 5 assists in his last 2 games. He is +105 for an anytime point tonight.

-       NCAA Tournament – 2nd Round

Tennessee (-6.5) (-110) vs. Texas

The Vols are a solid team against the spread, in fact, to end the regular season, they were 8-3 in their last 11 games ATS. They throttled Saint Peter’s in the Round of 64 and Texas, well, they won by 12, but in all honesty, it should have been a much closer game. Colorado State played historically bad against them. Scoring only 11 points in the 1st half and shooting just 29% from the field. I can’t even say that Texas played good defense in the game. Colorado State just played very poorly. Texas will be in for a tough matchup against a really tough Tennessee team. Tennessee is just flat-out a better team. They play much better against tough opponents and they are a better defensive team. I don’t think Tennessee should have much of an issue winning by at least 7 tonight. Texas is 13-20 ATS this season and it is a Rick Barnes revenge game.

Here are some good odds on a parlay for you today. This is a bit riskier than I like to have for parlays, but I think it will have a decent shot of hitting today. The one I am most worried about is the NJ Devils puck line, but they have been playing decent since firing their coach. Well, considering the circumstances. Hopefully, I have a winner for you today.
