WWE Power Rankings: Week of December 15th
It is PPV day, but before that, I want to share my Power Rankings for the week in WWE. The show doesn’t have a lot of buildup, but for what it is, they did a solid job to prepare. A lot of these performers in the rankings this week are beneficiaries of big storylines heading into the PPV, but I guess that argument could be made each week. As far as the shows this week go, they were fine, not awesome, but fine. There were some twists and turns and some more of the same, but there is one thing that isn’t the same each week, and that is the WWE Power Rankings and here they are.
- 10: The Viking Raiders (NR)
The Raiders have been in the Power Rankings a decent amount this year and they have a match at TLC tonight. On Monday, they faced The Street Profits and won in convincing fashion. The match was solid for what it was, but it was more of a push for the Viking Raiders heading into the PPV. They are going to be facing an unknown team tonight and it will be interesting to see who the mystery team is, but for now, The Viking Raiders are still tag champs and your number 10 this week.
- 9: Humberto Carrillo (NR)
I was under the impression that Carrillo may take a step back for a little bit, but it appears that he is still getting a minor push. He picked up a win against Andrade this Monday and it was a solid showing for both competitors. After being in the US title discussion over the last month or so, Carrillo has been impressive, but moving forward, I’m not exactly sure where he stands.
- 8: Roman Reigns (NR)
After being humiliated on SmackDown last week, this week was a little different. Roman was the last guy standing on the last show before a PPV and that is worth something. He will face King Corbin tonight and it is expected to be the final match on the card. I guess we’ll see what happens tonight, but don’t expect The Big Dog to take the L.
- 7: Dakota Kai (NR)
Ever since her heel turn, Dakota Kai has been very impressive. I kinda thought that she was going to have a little feud with Candice LeRae, but it looks like Mia Yim will be her opponent for a little while. Kai defeated Yim on Wednesday night and it was a tough battle between two of the best in the NXT women’s division. Once Tegan Nox recovers from injury, she will surely be back to get retribution for Dakota Kai’s betrayal.
- 6: Rusev/Lana and Bobby Lashley (NR)
Although this segment has been absolutely hated over the past few weeks, I have enjoyed it all the way through. Sure, there have been some awkward moments, but that is what makes it interesting. This kind of stuff happened in the Attitude Era all the time, but now it happens and it is the worst thing on television. People are trashing Lana and honestly, she is the one that has been selling this whole thing. She has been the heat magnet in this and everyone hates her, for good reason. She is doing her job and ultimately, the goal in all of this was to get sympathy for Rusev and get Lana and Bobby Lashley heat. It has worked and I think most of the fans are going to be rooting for Rusev Day tonight. Something else that is worth noting, Rusev was rocking that Donald Duck shirt.
- 5: Rey Mysterio (NR)
Ever since claiming the US Championship, Mysterio has been featured a lot. He fought in the main event on Monday and defeated AJ Styles. Every time Mysterio gets in the ring, you know you’re going to see a wonderful match and this was no different. I hate to see that he won’t be having a match at TLC, but for now, I’m glad to see him on RAW every week.
- 4: Finn Bálor (NR)
Bálor has been on fire since returning to NXT and this week he had a match against Tommaso Ciampa and Keith Lee. It was an awesome TV match and Bálor picked up the big win here. You have to think he will be in a title discussion in the coming weeks, so be on the lookout for that. Bálor is one of the best in the WWE and he continues to show that every week. He will also continue to gain notoriety for the NXT brand.
- 3: Angel Garza (NR)
Garza had the biggest win(s) of his career on Wednesday when he defeated Lio Rush for the Cruiserweight Championship. When I saw that this match was advertised, I had a feeling that Garza was going to pick up the win. He has been solid ever since making his debut and look for him to prove himself with the new target that he has attached to him now. If I had to pick a match of the week, it was probably this one. Also, Garza proposed to his girlfriend after the match, so double congrats are in order
- 2: Bray Wyatt (1)
Wyatt has continued to dominate SmackDown and this week it was more of the same. He and The Miz have had a great short-term feud here and this is the match that I am most anticipating tonight. Although it isn’t a title match, I’m still anxious to see what happens. Wyatt isn’t advertised as The Fiend in the contest, so that should definitely make things interesting.
- 1: Seth Rollins and AOP (NR)
The moment we’ve all been waiting for, the inevitable Seth Rollins heel turn. He turned on Kevin Owens and we found out that he has been aligning himself with AOP all along. This is a cool turn of events and I’m interested to see where this leads to. I’m already seeing a lot of comparisons to The Shield. It is premature to make that kind of comparison and their gimmicks are totally different, but I’m excited to see Rollins leading a faction, because Rollins as a villain works the best. Also, it will be intriguing to see if they will play a role tonight.
