WWE Power Rankings: Week of February 7th - 12th

I’m going to be honest, I had no clue how to rank superstars this week. I felt like the shows were both a jumble up mess. There really are only about 3 or 4 people that stood out to me this week. I’m not going to do a full review of the shows because I really feel like there is not a point. This week is a week of firsts for the WWE Power Rankings on The Sports Chief. This is the first week that we have tag teams on the list, notice I said “teams.” There are more than one, but I will not spoil it, that’s what the article is for after all. Both shows this week were the Becky Lynch show and rightfully so. She has been the biggest name in the WWE for months now and I’m glad to see she is getting the big push. Other than that, there is nothing remotely close to the intensity that is involved with the Rousey/Lynch matchup. Compiling the list for this week was quite the challenge and you guys are probably going to think I’m crazy with some of these rankings, but this is the toughest it has ever been for me so far. On RAW, we thought we were going to see a Kurt Angle retirement speech, but he was interrupted by Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre, then Angle teamed with Braun Strowman in the main event to take on Corbin and McIntyre. Jeff Jarrett was in a WWE match on Monday night for the first time since 1999, which was interesting to say the least. Elias prevailed in that one. Dean Ambrose took a loss to EC3 in EC3’s main roster debut match. I don’t know why EC3 isn’t talking, he is a solid talker, but for some reason he is mute on the main roster, we’ll see if that gets cleared up. Sasha and Bayley locked up the final chamber spot for the new WWE Women’s Tag Team titles. This was far from a shock and when Sasha is cleared to perform, look for them to be the first champs. Other than that, nothing special went on during RAW this Monday night.

SmackDown Live was pretty boring as well, excluding the opener. Charlotte Flair opened the show and a suspended Becky Lynch came through the crowd to confront The Queen. Triple H told Lynch to leave and the two had a tension-filled confrontation, with Lynch even attacking Triple H. She then left the arena. As far as the men’s tag team division is concerned Anderson and Gallows were finally on TV for the first time in a while, but the duo lost to what appears to be a new team compiled of Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev. Going back to the women’s division, why is the champion not being featured? She is one of the most talented superstars on the roster, but wrestled in a dark match after the closing of the show. I want to see Asuka on TV. She clearly isn’t injured, so I really don’t understand the reason behind it. Also, the women on RAW had to compete for a spot in the Tag Team title match, but the women of SmackDown “declared” their own spots. That was kind of odd, but I guess RAW has a bigger roster, so I guess they had to make a way to dwindle the number down. The buildup for the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship has been solid, but I really don’t expect the champion to drop the title.

-      10: Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura (NR)

In what appears to be the formation of a new tag team, Nakamura and Rusev picked up a victory against Anderson and Gallows on Tuesday night. These two superstars were in a totally different spot last year and I feel like that is all creative’s fault. These two men are tremendous entertainers and very solid in the ring and I think that they will be a good team, but I think they’re better suited for a singles role. It will be interesting to see if they win the tag team titles coming up as I fully expect Miz and McMahon to drop the titles in the near future.

This is the first time this duo has made it to the Top 10 and honestly, the only reason they’re on here is because I think they are the SmackDown favorites to be the new Women’s Tag champs. They looked like favorites in their Triple Threat Tag match on Tuesday night. I personally think that two teams on RAW have a better shot to take the titles, but I may be wrong. I really had no clue who to put past the Top 5, so here they are. We may see them in the Top 10 more in the future, but I’m not really expecting it that often.

-      8: Randy Orton (NR)

The Viper hasn’t been in my Power Rankings this year until now and he looked like his old self on Tuesday night against Mustafa Ali. Orton will be in the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE title and will look to be a strong competitor in the match. I don’t expect him to be in the Top 10 often from here on out, but he very well could make another big title run in the near future, so we will see.

-      7: Bayley and Sasha Banks (NR)

This isn’t the first time Sasha has been on the list, but it is the first for Bayley. This time, they will go on the list together at number 7.  It’s no secret that these two ladies are the favorite to win the Tag Team titles at the next PPV. Bayley did all the work on Monday night, because Sasha is still dealing with an injury from her Royal Rumble match with Ronda Rousey. She should be good to go for the Tag Team match, but if she isn’t cleared, it will be interesting to see who will take the titles.

-      6: Finn Bálor (9)

Now at number 6, we have Finn Bálor. He had a solid showing against Lio Rush Monday night, although we were supposed to see him and Bobby Lashley squaring off. He and Rush put on a good match and their similar styles made it very interesting. I’d say there will be a match at Elimination Chamber between Bálor and Lashley for the Intercontinental Championship and if I were to make a wager, I’d say it is Bálor’s to lose.

-      5: Samoa Joe (NR)

I wanted to put Samoa Joe in last week’s Rankings, but I didn’t see a place where he would fit. This week he made an even stronger case for the list and is in the Top 5. They are really pushing him on SmackDown and really trying to make him seem like a big threat for the WWE Championship. Joe is very talented and deserving of this opportunity. I really thought that he was going to be champion during his feud with AJ Styles, but it didn’t happen. Look for Joe to be a continued force on SmackDown for at least the next couple of weeks.

-      4: Charlotte Flair (8)

Although the Queen has been in the Top 10 every week but one, this is her first time reaching the Top 5. Her role in the Lynch/Rousey feud is becoming less subtle each week. Obviously there are rumors swirling around that she will be included in the main even match at WrestleMania and I feel like I’m one of the few fans that is fine with the idea. Personally, I’d rather see just Rousey and Lynch, but adding Charlotte would not harm anything. There is no denying her in-ring ability and she is a natural heel to both Ronda and Becky. It totally would work at WrestleMania, but the route that creative is going, I’m not sure I like how she will be added.

-      3: Daniel Bryan (6)

Another strong week for Daniel Bryan and it looks like he’ll be here for the next little while. He has been very strong as a champion and don’t look for that to change at Elimination Chamber. He was in front of a crowd in his home state of Washington on Tuesday and they were excited to see him. They’ve built up the WWE Championship match at Elimination Chamber very well and I think we will see another week of great build up. This also marks the first time the new eco-friendly WWE Championship will be on the line. I personally hope the title is dropped at the next PPV so I don’t have to look at that ugly thing anymore, but as far as a character standpoint goes, Bryan has been a great heel, so I’m conflicted.

-      2: Ronda Rousey (2)

Having Ronda at the second spot in back-to-back weeks isn’t a shock to anyone, but I think she digressed this week. She was in two matches, back-to-back, on Monday night and both were squashes against Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan. At this point, why does she need squash matches on RAW? We know she is a strong opponent, this does absolutely nothing for her at the moment. I know you’re wondering why I put her at the second spot, despite not really liking her involvement this week, but here is my response to that. She did her job to further the tension between herself and Becky Lynch. That was her main goal and it did the trick. Moving forward, I hate that Lynch is “injured”, but Ronda is the constant in the feud and that isn’t going to change. We may see a triple threat at WrestleMania, but honestly, I think creative is playing with our emotions on this one. I still believe it will be a one-on-one match between Lynch and Rousey. Hopefully I’m right about this.

-      1: Becky Lynch (1)

The Man is back at number one this week for the third time in five weeks and has been in the Top 3 all five weeks. Nobody in the company has been talked about as much as her. It looks like she will be a two-brand superstar from here until WrestleMania and I couldn’t be happier. Charlotte mentioned that she was stealing Roman Reigns’ entrance, but the first thing that popped in my mind was Sandman. I’m a fan of Roman, but Sandman’s entrance is a stronger look, but back to the point, I liked the crowd entrance from Becky Lynch, however, I don’t like the storyline with her “injury” at the moment, but hopefully that will come to pass within the next couple of weeks. She attacked Stephanie McMahon and slapped Triple H this week and we are starting to see the WWE take a Stone Cold Steve Austin style of approach with her, which is totally fine, but I think they need something else to separate her if they want to maximize her potential. It will be interesting to see it unfold from now until WrestleMania.
