Song of the Day: Lightning Crashes
Great 90s tune here, which was extremely popular after its release in 1994. It’s from the band Live and was part of their classic Throwing Copper album. I love the buildup in this song, which just makes the second half of the song that much better. The band’s lead singer Ed Kowalczyk said many people have misinterpreted the lyrics of this song over the years for a woman dying while giving childbirth. He notes that the song is simply about the transference of life, perfectly captured in hospitals where deaths are mourned and births are celebrated at the same time. According to Kowalczyk, the song was dedicated to a high school friend who was killed by a drunk driver in 1993.
