On Wednesday, June 19th the Memphis Grizzlies traded Mike Conley Jr to the Utah Jazz. The trade for the Grizzlies to make room for Ja Morant who is projected to be the 2nd overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft was a great move, but what are the Jazz trying to accomplish? The Jazz gets another point guard to pair with Donavan Mitchell in the backcourt, but is Mike Conley going to have that much of an impact versus what they traded away. If you are late to the party, the Jazz traded Grayson Allen, Jae Crowder, and Kyle Korver along with the 23rd pick of the 2019 draft and a future 1st round pick in 2020. Utah has a way to go before being a contender for an NBA championship, and they unloaded some good bench players along with future draft picks that can help them get closer to an NBA championship. Could the Jazz have done better holding onto their picks? Possibly, but after doing some research into the late round picks, it is not likely. Utah is seizing a chance to have a solid backcourt with veteran leadership. With the available free agencies. The name that comes to mind would be Tobias Harris (if he does not get a max deal with the 76ers). Tobias would be an excellent addition as a scoring machine in the SF position replace Joe Ingles/Royce O'Neal. In this situation, the Jazz has made a sound decision in acquiring Conley. Will this scenario play out? Only time will tell. Being on the east coast, I do not follow the Jazz as carefully as I should, but they have a nice could have a sweet young core to build around for championship contention in the future.
