AEW's Fight for the Fallen Results and Reaction

Fight for the Fallen was very, very impressive tonight and the fact that we got to see this event for free is just amazing. There is still a lot that AEW has to work on from a production standpoint, but the content they provide is top notch to say the least. There is so much potential for AEW and it is pretty evident that they are legitimate competitors of the WWE. Here is my reaction to the PPV and at the bottom of the page, we have a link to a tweet that will direct you to a chance to win 2 FREE tickets to All Out in Chicago, so you don’t want to miss out on that.

-      Men’s Singles Match

Sonny Kiss over Peter Avalon w/Leva Bates

I knew going into this match that it was going to be an attempt to give Sonny Kiss a chance to show his entertainment value. It was entertaining, but I just didn’t think it was a long enough match. If the match was just 2-4 minutes longer I think it would’ve been perfect. Obviously, this wasn’t supposed to be a match that was drawn out and lengthy, but it could’ve used something extra in my opinion.

-      Women’s Tag Team Match

Shoko Nakajima and Bea Priestley over Britt Baker and Riho

There were a couple botches in this one, but I tend to overlook botches if the match is solid and this match was one of those cases. This was a pretty entertaining match. I did not expect Nakajima and Priestley to get the win in this one, but they finished the Buy In with an unexpected result, which was cool to see. I wanted to what Bea Priestley could do in this one and I was impressed. She legitimately could be one of the biggest heels in the women’s division in the near future. Other than the couple botches, my only complaint was match length. The first match was a little too short, but this one seemed to be too lengthy, but other than that, I think it was a solid showing from these ladies.

-      6-Man Tag Team Match

Shawn Spears, MJF, and Sammy Guevara over Jimmy Havoc, Darby Allin, and Joey Janela

I’m glad that they went with this match to kick off the main show. It was super entertaining and had a lot of storytelling in the match. I didn’t guess the result of this one correctly, but I think the result was perfect at the moment. Having Shawn Spears secure the pin was the right move moving forward and I think that he will absolutely shine in AEW. He is referred to as The Chairman, for obvious reasons, which is something that WWE would never think about capitalizing on. Both sides put good work in and I thought the match was great.

-      Women’s Singles Match

Brandi Rhodes w/Awesome Kong over Allie

I was concerned about the storytelling aspect of this match, but boy did they bring some old school storytelling out in this one. Brandi Rhodes posed as a babyface that was on a long road to recovery, but she came to the ring with a little help. Awesome Kong came to her side and it is going to be awesome to see the heel Rhodes couple in the next little while. I was impressed with this match and I think there is still more to tell right here. Allie is a very solid performer in the ring and we got a teaser of a potential match between the Kongs of AEW. I expect to see a hard-hitting match between Aja and Awesome Kong at All Out. Speaking of Rhodes and Allie though, I think they’re the two favorites to be the inaugural AEW Women’s Championship.

-      3-Way Men’s Tag Team Match

Dark Order over Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus, Angélico and Jack Evans

This was a high energy and super entertaining match. Angélico and Jack Evans were not featured hardly any, but the other two teams were so far over that it didn’t matter. I felt like Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus were robbed of a victory and that just shows how realistic and authentic of a product that these competitors are producing. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus are the perfect pairing and I know if they stay healthy, they will be at the top of the tag team division. I expected a victory from Dark Order and I think they didn’t more than enough to secure the victory, but I really wanted Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus to win this one.

-      Men’s Singles Match

Adam Page over Kip Sabian

This was a decent match, but not great. It had good spots, but it was kind of sluggish and all over the place. The commentary was even out of sorts in this match. Page had a spot where it looked like he injured his knee, but he did not sell it for the rest of the match. I did not like that and I hope in the future he does a better job of selling bumps. Jericho attacking Page at the end of the match was a nice touch, but everyone was expecting Jericho to deliver some sort of promo here and we didn’t get that. It could’ve been worse, but this has been the worst match of the night thus far.

-      Men’s Tag Team Match

 Lucha Brothers over SoCal Uncensored

The charisma from these 4 veteran wrestlers was on full display in this contest. There was not a shortage of creativity in this match and it is crazy because I feel like this has been the case in most of the matches tonight. I could literally see this match going either way, but the Lucha Brothers taking the win was the right move here. The tag team division is clearly far and away better than WWE at the moment, so I’m interested to see how they counter this. It looks like we are getting a Ladder match at All Out featuring the Lucha Brothers and They Young Bucks and I’m already excited for this matchup.

-      Men’s Singles Match *Match of the Night*

Kenny Omega over Cima

The match was pretty sluggish for the first few minutes, but man did it ever get interesting afterwards. This was an excellent match. The bumps that these guys take are just ridiculous. This was a hard-hitting and entertaining bout and Kenny Omega is called the best by chance. He is genuinely one of the best to ever step between the ropes. I mentioned in the predictions article that these two complement each other and I think that might have been an understatement. Cima was very impressive in this bout and I really want to see another match between these two in the future.

-      Chris Jericho Promo

I was beginning to think we weren’t going to get this promo, but it was awesome when we finally did see it. Not only did Jericho manage to get heel heat, but he did an excellent job of putting over Hangman Page. I think they may be rushing Page into the title picture, but I don’t doubt that they will put on a great show at All Out. I’m not giving this a grade, but they did a great job to promote this match.

-      Men’s Tag Team Match

The Young Bucks over Cody and Dustin Rhodes

I knew storytelling was going to carry this match and did it ever. This was some old-school wrestling mixed with a fine display of athleticism. I’m glad that Dustin is getting a chance to shine in AEW and hopefully he can continue to put on a few more good matches. I thought this would be his last match, but it appears that he isn’t done yet and I’m glad to see that. You can’t go wrong here with a Young Bucks win and It was a fine close to the show. After the match was over, Cody mentioned that you can’t counter-produce the revolution that is AEW and I felt it. This is real and the tension is there. Wrestling is about to get awesome again in a hurry!
