Song of the Day: Black Betty
Black Betty by Ram Jam. The song is often credited to the blues musician Lead Belly when he originally recorded the song back in 1939, though there are even earlier adaptations of the song. Then comes along the band Ram Jam, who covers this song in 1977 and it becomes a hit reaching top 10 on multiple charts in Europe and reaching 18 in the US. It’s was pretty much the only hit the band ever had but hey at least they had a hit and the song is still widely played today on classic rock stations. Few more things to point out, what a incredible music video this is. It’s basically like they went to the store 30 mins before they shot the video, picked up a video camera, set up their music equipment outside and parked the motorcyles behind them to really give off that party atmosphere. Again, incredible. Also complete shock that this band is from New York because I definitely would’ve guessed Alabama.
