Song of the Day: Silent Night
Silent Night by Frank Sinatra. Nothing needs to be said about Sinatra, we all know he’s one of the greatest when it comes to Christmas tunes. This recording of Sinatra performing Silent Night, I believe is from 1945 and was first released on his 1948 Christmas album. The song itself obviously dates much, much further. I think I made the comment that The First Noel was likely the oldest song that we’ve posted, as it was written in 1823, well it looks like Silent Night takes that crown. Silent Night was written in 1816 and was titled Stille Nacht as the song was originally written in German. The song was written by a catholic priest, Joseph Mohr, in Austria and performed for the first time on Christmas Eve, two years later in 1818.
