WWE Power Rankings: Week of June 26th 2020
Here’s another WWE Power Rankings this week and this was an odd week for the WWE. SmackDown was cut short due to an Covid outbreak, but the rest of the shows seemingly went on without a hitch. Some storylines had to be changed up due to this and it will be interesting to see what happens as an effect of this. This was a difficult week to rank because of new feuds getting established and there were actually a lot of competitors that I felt bad for not ranking this week. That is usually not the case though, but here are my rankings for the week.
10: Akira Tozawa
While this moment wasn’t significant, it is showing that Tozawa can be competitor that gets regular TV time. Tozawa is great, but a lot of people probably think that this gimmick is too corny. I think it is, but the fact that he is getting TV is an encouraging sign. We may see him competing for the US title in the near future and I think that is a good short-term goal for him.
9: Seth Rollins/Rey Mysterio
There are a lot of people involved in this feud and I really didn’t know all the superstars I should rank here, but I came to the conclusion that it should be Rollins and Mysterio. This feud has been really good, but I feel bad that it has been overshadowed somewhat by other things, so they have been missing out on the rankings. This feud should go on for a good while longer and I wouldn’t mind it at all.
8: Drew McIntyre/Dolph Ziggler
Ziggler is officially a member of RAW and his first task on RAW is challenging the WWE Champion. This should be a good short-term feud and McIntyre can do no wrong at the moment. Ziggler is the perfect complement to him and i’m excited to see this match at Extreme Rules.
7: Jeff Hardy
Hardy’s feud was shaken up a little bit this week, but he benefitted greatly because of it. He won the main event of SmackDown this week and defeated King Corbin. There isn’t much to say here, but it was a good week for Hardy in a shorthanded show on SmackDown.
6: Sasha Banks and Bayley
Banks and Bayley defended the tag titles this week against The IIconics. Also, Sasha Banks had a big week on her own. She challenged Asuka to a match at Extreme Rules for Asuka’s title. Banks and Bayley are at the top of the Women’s division at the moment and they have been able to take advantage of the current situation in WWE.
5: The Street Profits
The Street Profits and The Viking Raiders finally had a match for the tag belts and The Profits successfully retained. It wasn’t a great match like I was expecting, but it was decent. The Street Profits have been great champions thus far and The Viking Raiders adaptation into a new layer was a cool thing to see over the course of the last few weeks. It looks like Andrade and Angel Garza are next in line for the champs.
4: Nikki Cross
Cross had a good week on SmackDown and she is the new number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. It is good to see her finally getting a shot at the title and hopefully she wins. Not because I exactly want to see a title change, but I predicted in one of my articles back in January that she would win a women’s championship in 2020. Should be a good match coming up.
3: Keith Lee
Lee had a big win on NXT in the main event. Lee defeated Finn Bálor and Johnny Gargano and retained his belt. He will face Adam Cole in 2 weeks in a title vs. title, winner take all match. This should be good and we could see Adam Cole drop the title. It should be a great match and expect it to go head-to-head with Jon Moxley vs. Brian Cage if that match is able to happen.
2: Asuka
Asuka had a successful title defense on RAW. She defeated Charlotte Flair by making her tap out. It looks like Charlotte will be taking some time off, but it is unclear for how long. Asuka as champion is something that could go on for quite some time. They shouldn’t consider taking the title from her for at least another 6 months in my opinion, but don’t be surprised if Sasha Banks is the next RAW Women’s Champion in the next few weeks.
1: The Undertaker
Taker obviously didn’t compete this week, but it was a bittersweet week for the WWE Universe. His 5-part documentary finished airing on Sunday and he said that he has no interest in having another match and he said he is retiring without actually uttering those exact words. The Undertaker’s career is unlike any other and is arguably the best career in wrestling history. More than half of SmackDown was dedicated to him and it was a great homage to the Deadman. While SmackDown paid respect to Undertaker, I wanted to do the same this week in the Power Rankings. Thank You for everything Undertaker and I wish you nothing but great things away from the ring.
